Making it can be the first step to start. self-made upholstered furniture... This will allow, first of all, to try your hand and work out the technology.

    This short review will describe how to make an ottoman with your own hands. The assembled product will be a great addition to the interior of the living room or hallway.

    Choice of design and construction

    This item is the easiest to manufacture, so anyone, the most novice master, can handle it. Before starting work, you first need to decide on the design of the future product. Studying photos of various ottomans will help in this.

    The ottoman can have a rigid frame or do without it at all. As a frame can be used various materials... The most commonly used classic joinery materials such as boards, plywood, chipboard.

    Frame poufs can also be made from old plastic bottles, buckets or car tires. Poufs without a frame are a neatly sewn bag stuffed with expanded polystyrene.

    Ottoman frame

    Assembling this item is not difficult. Let's figure out what and with what materials you can make a pouf with your own hands. Different tools and materials are used depending on the design.

    Frameless pouf

    The simplest soft ottoman without a rigid frame is made using a minimum set of tools. To do this, it is necessary to sew a bag with a lining and fill it with granular expanded polystyrene, specially produced in the form of balls for stuffing furniture. Therefore, it is easy to purchase it at a hardware store or in the market.

    Tire pouf

    A new and quite popular model now are ottomans from the old car tire... Making them is also quite simple. This will require old tire preferably fixed on a metal disc for rigidity.

    If the tire is without a disc, then the rigidity of the structure can be given wooden partitions installed inside the tire.

    In order to make such an ottoman, you need to cut two circles of plywood 3-5 millimeters thick and attach them with screws to the top and bottom of the cover to create horizontal planes. Then, using a quick-drying glue, glue the rope in a spiral to the surface from the center to the edges.

    The top is covered with a rope. wooden surface and a rubber side surface. Before buying material, you need to calculate the length of the rope and estimate its cost.

    Perhaps such a piece of furniture will not fit into a living room or bedroom, but it may be suitable for a home workshop or study. At the same time, you can try not to trim its surface with a rope, but only stick a soft seat on the upper surface, leaving the rubber intact.

    Pouf made of plastic bottles

    You can make such furniture from the most different materials... For example, even plastic bottles, old buckets, but it is better to use more durable materials. They are not so expensive in price and their consumption is very small.

    With their help, you can create an ottoman of any size and shape and add additional structural elements: assemble an ottoman with a hinged lid, drawer for various little things, legs or rollers.

    Pouf made of plywood, chipboard

    Quite simply, poufs with a frame made of chipboard, wood or plywood are made. Such products can be heavily loaded and can be used like an ordinary stool.

    To create it, the sheet material is first cut in accordance with the drawing. It is fastened with screws and wooden bars fixed along the edges of the sheets. Small irregularities will be hidden by the soft upholstery and finishing fabric.

    The pouf can have a hinged lift-up lid. It will be possible to store small things in it, but for this you need to make the bottom. The cover, depending on the base, can have a different shape: round, square.

    Lining

    The next step is to attach the soft pad. For these purposes, a synthetic winterizer or foam rubber is used, which is attached with construction brackets and glue. A fabric or leather decorative covering is attached in the same way over the upholstery.

    The color and type of coating in no less form determines the design of the product, as well as its frame. The decoration of the product determines its overall design, therefore it depends on how the product will fit into the interior. Since the product turns out to be quite small, it is quite possible to use the most daring color solutions that will almost always be appropriate.

    For convenience, the pouf can have legs or casters. They are installed at the last stage. If you decide to do it without rollers, then in order not to scratch the floor, you should glue four small pieces of felt from ordinary insoles from below.

    In the production of any furniture, the main thing is to patiently do all the work, carefully performing each step. You can make an ottoman with your own hands from almost anything, you can use a wide variety of materials and ideas.

    The most important thing is that for this you will be rewarded with a new piece of furniture that will serve you for many years, pleasing with a pleasant appearance.

    Photos of ottomans with your own hands

    We all constantly want to change something in the interior of our apartment, and for this we buy new furniture... But there is such an item as an ottoman, which you can not purchase, but do it yourself. At the same time, you can add some zest to the interior of your home. It can be made in the required shape and color so that it fits perfectly into the room. In addition, the ottoman can be used not only for its intended purpose, in order to sit on it, it can perform many other useful functions.

    How to make an ottoman with your own hands:

    After choosing the color, upholstery material, size and shape of the ottoman itself, you need to purchase a tool for its manufacture. If it is decided to make a square ottoman with a removable lid (with an internal compartment for storing all the little things you need in the house) and a wooden frame, then you purchase the tool necessary for its assembly:

      Manual electric jigsaw;

    • Screwdriver.

    The material will require chipboard or plywood with a thickness of at least 10 mm, wooden beam 40 × 40 or 40 × 50 mm, metal furniture corners, furniture wheels, glue and wood screws.

    Work order:

    Having decided on the tool and material, we begin assembling the frame for our future ottoman. There are several steps to be followed:

      Markup.

      Cleaning the material.

      Assembly of the frame.

      Cover construction.

      Checking the strength of all joints.

    First, measurements of the side walls, bottom and cover are made on a chipboard or plywood sheet. All this is cut with a jigsaw. In the resulting workpieces using sandpaper the edges of the cuts are cleaned. After that, the assembly of the frame begins. With the help of wood screws, the side walls and the bottom are connected. It is preliminarily required to drill the outer sheets with a drill, which should have a diameter slightly larger than the self-tapping screw.

    To increase the strength, the outer side of the structure is reinforced with metal corners.

    After that, two bars are cut along the width of our product and attached. Then pre-prepared furniture wheels are screwed onto these bars. These can be purchased at any building supplies store.

    The next step is to make the cover of the ottoman. A pre-cut and cleaned lid is taken, on which the bars are fixed in such a way that the lid fits snugly into the frame. The bars are attached with self-tapping screws and additionally sit on the glue. The length of the self-tapping screws is chosen so that they do not stick out from the front side of the cover.

    It is better to choose fabric for upholstery from a fairly dense material. This will extend the life of the product.

    The fabric is cut to size. One edge is fixed with a construction stapler, stretched, fixed again, and so on until the end. You can insert some kind of cord or canvas outside to improve the appearance. It all depends on your desire and taste.

    On the fabric for the cover of the ottoman, you can make some kind of applique, or sew a fringe on the side, which will give the product an unusual look. After such simple steps, the ottoman is ready. Now you can not only sit on it, but also add many small household items.

    There are still quite a few designs of ottomans from scrap materials that can be made even easier and faster. But on the example of a classic ottoman with a wooden frame, it is clear that making it yourself is not difficult. At the same time, you can significantly save your finances and spend your time usefully.

For their manufacture, you can use various materials at hand that are in your house and independently choose the type of upholstery, color, shape, size. As a result, such a product will cost almost no investment.

    How to make an ottoman with your own hands, you will learn from this material, and nice pictures and the video instruction at the end of the article will simplify your task.

    A simple way to make soft poufs

    We often do not have enough time and desire to deal with patterns, so soft ottomans can be made like this:

    1. We cut out two circles from the fabric, which in their diameter should be the same with the diameter of the bottom and top of the product. Be sure to leave seam allowances;
    2. Next, we cut out two identical rectangular parts, the width of which is the height of the ottoman, the length is 1/2 the circumference of the lower and upper parts;
    3. We sew rectangular parts with each other in width from one edge until a long tape is obtained;
    4. We sweep one circle to it, sew along the seam, do the same manipulation with another circle. If you receive an uneven seam, you can sheathe it with a decorative border.

    Using this method, a case for a product is made simply and quickly. It is stuffed with whatever soft material is at hand. At the end of the process, a zipper is sewn into the non-stitched edges of the rectangular tape.

    "Chair" from plastic bottles

    Plastic bottles can be creatively used in everyday life and even form practical pieces of furniture from them, because plastic containers are cheap, convenient, lightweight, and, in fact, eternal material. Having made an ottoman from bottles with your own hands, you will acquire an irreplaceable thing that will perfectly fit into the interior of a summer cottage or house, will not take up much space and will serve for several years.

    For a compact and soft seat, first prepare the bottles - wash them, remove the stickers. To make the container stronger, we put it open in a cold room for an hour, then close it with a cork and place it under a well-heated battery. Bottles expand due to temperature differences and keep their shape for a long time.

    For the upholstery, it is better to take such furniture fabric as artificial fur, tapestry. The fabric should have a dense base and wash well.

    You will need:

    • Stationery knife;
    • 16 bottles of 1.5 liters;
    • Threads, needles, sewing machine;
    • Two types of adhesive tape - transparent and double-sided;
    • Foam rubber (thickness - 3 cm);
    • Lightning;
    • Plywood (corrugated board);
    • Upholstery fabric.

    How to make an ottoman:

    1. We make the seat from its middle: wrap the central bottle with double-sided tape, to which we glue three or four more. We will fix it well with transparent tape;
    2. We make a circle, level the base along a straight and solid surface. We fix each layer with tape from bottom to top;
    3. We will cut out two round timber out of cardboard, which correspond in size to the seat of the pouf. Wrap the bottom and top with scotch tape;
    4. Take a piece of foam rubber and completely wrap the future piece of furniture. Sew round foam rubber to its edges from above;
    5. The turn came to take measurements, which we will transfer to the fabric. Next, we cut out the details of the product from the fabric and sew them round. We will sew a zipper into the cover on the side and "dress up" a pouf in it.

    We get a lightweight and reliable seat, which is also great for a child's room.

    Another variation of a seat made from a large amount of foam rubber:

    1. This material is taken in a rectangular piece, a container is placed on it and wrapped. It turns out a soft bag "with a plastic filling" inside and a voluminous seat. The container lies much smoother than when wrapped with tape;
    2. This ottoman stands on the bottlenecks. For its stability and strength, we take containers twice as large. We cut off the necks, stick a whole bottle into them, as a result we get a cylinder, which we further decorate at our discretion.

    Bus stool with backrest

    From tires, you can make comfortable and durable ottomans in the hallway or any other room:

    1. Let's prepare two round timber from MDF or thick plywood, which should be slightly smaller in diameter than the wheel. They will serve to close the holes;
    2. We take bolts with nuts or self-tapping screws, fasten the circles in three places.

    The ottoman can be designed in two variations:

    • We glue the upper round timber of plywood with foam rubber, and attach this material to the side of the tire with a furniture stapler. We will make a cover, which we will stretch from above. If you have small squares of bars, then you can paint them and make legs from them;
    • Country style method. Take a thick braided rope, wrap the ottoman, not forgetting to fix it with glue. We glue both round timber first in a spiral, then - the side parts of the wheel. We hide the ends of the rope, cover it with varnish on top.

    You can improve the resulting product and make an ottoman with a back. It will require carefully crafted wooden blocks (five pieces).

    1. They are attached to the bottom of the chair, for which all the bars are connected to the tire barrel with four bolts.
    2. The back can be made with a slight backward tilt. To achieve this, the upper bolts are fitted with a washer spacer.
    3. We make a pillow the size of the back from two-layer foam rubber with a fabric cover. We sew ribbons on it (one third below the top level), they will also be attached to all the bars. The ribbons fix the cushion and at the same time serve to decorate the back of the pouf.

    Ottoman pear option

    Let's consider how to make an ottoman bag, which is a fashionable element of modern interiors.

    You will need:

    • Pattern paper;
    • Cloth for the inner cover - 300x150 mm;
    • High density threads;
    • Strong and dense fabric for upholstery (suede, tapestry) - 320x150 mm;
    • Lightning - 60 cm;
    • Expanded polystyrene filler with holofiber additive - 0.5-1 cubic meters meter.

    For the inner cover of the garment, choose a slippery, smooth fabric. Thanks to her, the filler will easily roll over the bag and take the form of a person resting in it.

    The pouf pattern contains six bag gussets and one bottom piece for the base.

    1. First, the drawings of the necessary parts must be made on paper. Then they are transferred to the fabric, which will be used on the outer and inner part ottoman;
    2. When cutting, leave allowances for seams - 1.5 cm;
    3. The upholstery bag should consist of parts that are slightly larger than the filling parts, so the outer cover will be easier to put on the filling bag;
    4. We sew all the fabric parts of the bag. First, these will be wedges that are sewn together, then proceed to the base;
    5. We leave space for the lightning outside;
    6. Pour filler into the inner bag, which will take 2/3 of its volume, sew the remaining places;
    7. We put on the cover on top, fasten the zipper.

    A nice pear ottoman will add comfort and coziness to your home.

    Item with box

    To make an ottoman with a drawer, you need to follow the instructions below:

    1. From chipboard we cut out 2 blanks with dimensions of 37x37 cm and 37x40 cm, and one square piece - 40x40 cm;
    2. We cut out 4 parts 37 cm long from a bar (4x4 cm in cross section);
    3. From these elements we make a box with a height of 37 cm;
    4. With the help of wood glue in the inner corners, we fasten the timber;
    5. We fix the corners outside with metal corners or self-tapping screws;
    6. We apply glue to the bottom and timber. Glue the bottom, give time to dry. After that, we fix it with self-tapping screws;
    7. We attach 4 locking bars to the square sheet for making the lid. This will fix the lid in the box;
    8. We cover it with soft material (batting, foam rubber, synthetic winterizer).

    Such a piece of furniture can be perfectly used as an ottoman for shoes, which can be stowed away in a storage box from season to season.

    In order for a new comfortable and original piece of furniture to appear in your home, it is not at all necessary to go to the store and spend a lot of money. Of course, it is better to buy a sofa or a bed, but such an interior detail as an ottoman is not difficult to do with your own hands.

    In addition, if you decide to start making an ottoman, you can make it the way that suits you best in design.

    It will be possible to select the desired shape, material and color. However, this is not the only advantage of homemade ottomans, since its production may not cost anything at all.

    Soft poufs

    The easiest way is to sew the most frameless soft ottoman. To make it, you only need a piece of fabric, stuffing material and a sewing machine.

    Although if there is none, then it is quite possible to do without it by stitching all the details by hand. In order for your ottoman to be even and look beautiful, you need to make a pattern out of paper. It should be a square with triangles at the ends.

    Using this template, you need to cut 8 identical parts from the fabric, not forgetting to leave seam allowances. Moreover, you can use both one piece of fabric, and materials of different color and texture for each of the parts cut according to the pattern.

    After all the details are ready, you need to sew them together to form a ball-like shape. And in order for the ottoman to be stuffed, fold the top on the triangle of each of its parts inward.

    Filler

    In order for the pouf to keep its shape, a synthetic winterizer or foam rubber is well suited. But you can use other materials as well. Even fabric scraps are suitable as such.

    To give the ottoman a finished look, you need to close the remaining hole by sewing on a circle of material with processed edges. If the edges of a round part are difficult for you to process, then it can be cut in the shape of an octagon.

    You can simplify the task and sew a pouf from two round parts, which will be the top and bottom of the product, and two rectangular parts, which are the sides of the pouf.

    The height of the ottoman can be adjusted by the width of the rectangle. But the length should always be equal to half the length of the cut circle.

    Sewing rectangular parts, stitching a circle to them and filling them with filler, you can get a round ottoman that will be soft and light. He will become not only practical subject furniture, but also a wonderful toy for children, which cannot be hurt.

    The cube-shaped ottoman is made in the same way. In this case, instead of two rectangular pieces and two circles, you need 6 squares. It is not difficult to make a cube out of them. And if you sew a secret zipper into one of the edges, then you can change the filler and wash the cover.

    Pouf made of plastic bottles

    The ottoman can be made with your own hands and from plastic bottles. They, of course, must have the same volume.

    To do this, the upper part of the bottle, where it begins to taper, needs to be cut off and the part remaining without a cap must be put on another bottle of the same type. Repeating this procedure with other bottles, we form a round structure from them.

    So that the bottles do not deform and the pouf does not lose its shape, we fasten them with adhesive tape.

    A little trick is that the bottle, which is inside the other bottles of the same type, fastened with ordinary transparent tape, can be pasted over with double-sided and glued to the inside of the rest of the bottles.

    Note!

    In order to cover the upper and lower areas, it is necessary to cut a circle out of cardboard or chipboard according to the diameter of the connected bottles. We glue foam rubber to these circles, and wrap the pouf with it on the outside.

    It remains only to sew a cover for the finished ottoman. You can sew a zipper around the top of it.

    Such furniture will save filler. And if the cover is made of raincoat or water-repellent fabric, then such furniture can even be placed on the street.

    In addition, as you can see in the photo, round ottomans, made without a frame and containing plastic bottles inside, are appearance practically do not differ.

    Pouf with lid

    In order to make a pouf similar to those sold in stores, you need carpentry skills and some tools. To begin with, it is worth cutting out 4 rectangular parts 33 cm wide and 40 cm long from chipboard.

    Note!

    Use wooden blocks to hold them together. A square with a side of 40 cm is attached at the bottom.As a result, you should get a kind of box.

    This workpiece from the inside with a construction stapler can be sheathed with material. The square, which will act as a cover, is also sheathed from below with material. And the top, before being covered with an upholstery fabric, is pasted over with foam rubber in order to give the ottoman softness.

    Along the entire outer perimeter, the pouf, like the lid, is wrapped in foam rubber. And only then upholstery with material. Hinges are used to attach the lid to the cube. To give this piece of furniture mobility, you can attach furniture wheels to the bottom.

    It is even easier to make an ottoman with a lid from a bucket, a large saucepan or other utensils and utensils.

    The main thing is that, like a pouf, they have a removable or opening lid. Then you just need to wrap the blank with foam rubber or other soft material and put a cover on it.

    All homemade ottomans can perfectly fit not only into the interior of the apartment, but it is also a great option for a summer residence or outdoor recreation. After all, ottomans are lightweight, mobile due to their size and comfortable pieces of furniture.

    Note!

    They are very suitable for children's rooms, giving kids the opportunity to sit comfortably on them, or even build castles using poufs as cubes.

    It is much more convenient to use such a piece of furniture to sit down at a low coffee table, because a homemade pouf can be made of any height.
