    SELF-CLEANING OVENS

    Some ovens are marketed as self-cleaning. It means that interior panels(or some of them) are covered with so-called catalytic enamel, which "sheds" the usual fat deposits when the oven is heated. Some models - with so-called pyrolytic enamel - have a special "Clean only" mode, in which the oven heats up to a very high temperature. Do not use cleaning agents or abrasives on these ovens. This will permanently damage the coating and reduce its effectiveness.

    ACCESS TO PLATE ELEMENTS

    Typically, you can remove the screws that secure the metal panels at the back of a freestanding plate and gain access to the control panel and switch wiring as well as the terminal box of the plate. Wear protective gloves when removing the panel as the edges can be very sharp. It is not recommended to remove the back panel as it can be a structural (load-bearing) element of the structure.

    REPAIR OF ELECTROPLATES

    First thing

    Before calling the wizard or looking for serious problems, look at the points below in the list. Simple forgetfulness or inattention can very often cause the appearance of a problem.

    • Is the cooker switch on the dashboard turned on?
    • Was the cooker timer accidentally turned on?
    • Is the switch on that you need - for the hotplate, for the oven, for the grill?
    THE BURNER DOES NOT HEAT Unsuitable cookware

    The wrong choice of cookware can give the impression that the hotplate does not heat well. Good contact between the bottom of the cookware and the hotplate is important here, so do not use old pots and pans with dents in the bottom and with a convex or concave bottom.

    Do not try to replace the pancake burners or the heating elements of the glass ceramic hob. They should be changed by a service specialist. The same applies to the various built-in slabs.

    Simple spiral elements are sold all over the place and most of them are easy to replace. The type of hotplate described here is available in many free-standing hob models. On other models, the heating elements can be removed individually. If your heating elements differ significantly from those shown here, then contact the service to check and replace them.

    The following procedure is for testing the switch for a single heating element. For dual element switches, do the same for single and double acting switches - turning from the off position counterclockwise turns on one element (usually the inner one), and turning from the “off” position clockwise turns on both the inner and external elements together. Be careful not to touch the hot heating element during this test.

    1. Unplug the cooker wall switch, then slowly rotate the knob clockwise from the off position. You should hear a click when the knob reaches the lowest heat mark - the thermal switch has turned on.

    1. Rotate the knob slowly back to the “off” position - a click should be heard before the knob reaches the “off” position - the thermal switch has tripped. If you do not hear a click when turning the knob in one direction or another, then this switch is faulty.

    Leaving the handle in the off position, turn off the plate switch on the shield and slowly turn the handle clockwise until you hear a click again and leave the handle in that position. If the cooker has an indicator light, it must remain lit during the test.

    After about 5-10 seconds, you should hear another click when the thermal switch automatically turns off. If there is no click and the heating element remains on, then this continuously variable switch is defective and must be replaced.

    Even if the switch works normally in the low-temperature regulation sector, it is still necessary to check its operation even when high temperatures heating - see below.

    1. Turn the handle to the middle position. In this position, the thermal switch should automatically turn on and off, and you should hear a clicking sound about every 30 seconds.

    If the element heats up at each stage (with the switch on the plate on the dashboard), then both the switch and the heating element work normally. If the heating element heats up in some positions of the handle, but not in others, check it with a tester. If the heating element appears to be normal, replace the switch.

    You can usually replace the switch yourself in a freestanding plate - you can move it away from the wall and remove the panel covering the switches. With built-in devices, this is much more difficult, so contact the service.

    On most grills, different panels must be removed to check and replace the heating element. And the built-in model may have to be removed from the installation site in order to be replaced. In these cases, call a service specialist.
    However, some heating elements are simply inserted into the corresponding sockets of the terminal blocks at the back of the device. In the event of a malfunction, they are easy to replace.

    1. Place the element on the table and touch its contacts with the tester probes. The long center pin is ground. If there is carbon deposits on the contacts, have a technician check the sockets at the back of the grill compartment.

    When replacing such a plug-in heating element, make sure that the contacts are fully inserted and that it is supported - usually by the grooves on the sides of the grill compartment.

    Defective switch

    The stepless grill control is very similar to the same hotplate control. The check is generally the same for both switches, except that the grill knob may need to be turned further for low to medium temperatures.

    The thermal switch can also operate within a different range (longer to switch on and off) than the burner switch. Replace the stepless grill switch as described. If in doubt, consult a specialist.

    The stepped grill switches must be checked and replaced by a service technician.

    THE OVEN DOES NOT TURN ON Defective heating element

    If any of the heating elements of the oven is faulty, then it will heat up slowly and unevenly. Removing the heating element of the oven can be a difficult procedure, especially in built-in models. Even for free-standing models, it is sometimes required to almost completely disassemble the device with the removal of insulation in order to remove the heaters. Elements in ovens with a fan are best left to professionals, as access to them is also difficult.

    However, some oven heating elements can be removed from the inside of the oven, making them relatively easy to replace. Such a heating element will have a single fixing screw in the center of its fixing plate. If the fasteners are not visible, then call a specialist.

    1. Turn off the power at the fuse box, then remove or unscrew the cladding panels that cover the heating elements from the inside of the oven.

    1. Carefully remove the pins from the holes and mark before disconnecting the wires. Avoid pulling the wires or rubbing them against the sharp edges of the holes in the back of the oven. It's a good idea to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the fiberglass insulation.

    1. Place the heating element on the table and touch its contacts with the tester probes. If the indicator of the tester does not respond, buy an exact replacement heating element and install it.
      When switched on for the first time within a few seconds, the new heating element may generate some smoke. It just burned the protective covering of the heating element.

    Faulty thermostat

    The only way to check if the thermostat senses the temperature correctly is to put a special oven thermometer in the oven. However, the following check will help determine if the thermostat has failed completely.

    1. Turn on the power and turn the oven control knob to the low temperature position. After about 10 minutes, the oven should have warmed up enough for the thermostat to turn off the heating elements. For most models, the indicator light turns off at this moment.

    1. Open the oven door and release the heat. After a few seconds, the indicator should light up again, indicating that the thermostat has turned on the heating elements again.

    If the oven does not work as described above, contact the service for a check and possible replacement of the thermostat.

    OVEN OVERHEATING Faulty thermostat

    The most likely cause of oven overheating is usually the thermostat. To check it, invite the service wizard.

    THE OVEN HEATS BADLY

    If your oven heats up slowly or takes longer than expected to cook, check the following points.

    Wrong mode

    Make sure the control knob is at the correct temperature.

    The door seal, made of elastic heat-resistant rubber or braided tube, is designed to prevent heat from escaping from the oven. If the seal is worn out or out of place, the oven will not be able to maintain the set temperature.

    Seals are attached different ways but options with metal hooks or simple spring clips are the easiest to replace. In order to remove the seal, squeeze the spring holders with thin-nose pliers.

    Some seals are made in the form of solid rectangles with fastening at the corners, while others simply pass along the top, bottom and sides of the door opening. However, if it is not clear how the seal is attached, contact service to replace it.

    Faulty door latch

    A worn or poorly fitted door latch can interfere with the tight fitting of the door to the seal.

    If your oven has an adjustable latch catch, wrench loosen the lock nut and screw in or out the lock as necessary. When the door is seated, tighten the lock nut.

    If the tab on the oven door latch is worn out, the adjustment will not make the door fit snugly enough. On some models, to replace the tongue part of the latch, it is enough to unscrew the two fastening screws on the inner surface of the door. Others need to be removed inner lining doors. For this:

    1. Remove the inner metal lining of the door and carefully peel off the thermal insulation on the inside. Wear protective gloves to prevent skin irritation from fiberglass. If you have any lung problems when dealing with insulation, wear a regular respirator.

    Faulty thermostat

    A faulty thermostat can turn off heating elements if the temperature is too low. This is called thermostat de-calibration. However, it is possible that one of the TE-Novs has become unusable, and as a result, only one half of the oven will be heated to the required temperature. Check that the heating element is working if it is not difficult to remove it. Otherwise, contact a specialist to check and replace the element.

    The fan does not blow hot air

    If the only heating element in an oven with a fan fails, then this is obvious - the oven remains cold. But insufficient heating in such an oven most likely indicates poor air circulation inside the oven.

    Contact the service for the wizard to check the fan speed. Its reduction can occur as a result of bearing wear or impeller deformation. Both items are replaceable at a reasonable cost.

    NO OVEN LIGHTING Lamp burned out

    When the oven does not light up, turn off the appliance with the switch on the panel and either unscrew the round glass cover of the lighting lamp to reach the lamp, or pry the rectangular cover with a wide screwdriver.

    If replacing the lamp did not fix the problem, invite a wizard from the service for this.

    THE OVEN DOES NOT WORK AT ALL The hob switch is off

    Make sure the plate switch is on.

    No power supply

    The stove receives power on a circuit separate from other electrical appliances. Has the fuse in this circuit blown, or has the circuit breaker or RCD tripped?

    THE MAIN THING IS SECURITY

    • Allow the appliance to cool completely before cleaning or servicing the hotplates, oven or grill.
    • Stoves, especially built-in models, are heavy and can be difficult to handle. When moving a heavy appliance, work with someone else. If relocation is problematic, call a professional.
    • Before cleaning the hob, including individual hobs, ovens and grills, be sure to turn off the appliance with the hob wall switch.
    • Before servicing the hob, it must be completely de-energized. Simply turning off the hob's wall switch is not enough - the device must be turned off in the fuse box itself.
    • Before servicing an item inside an oven, hob, or grill, as a final check for a power outage, remove the terminal block panel and hold the non-contact tester near the power cord connection terminals. If you are not sure about a complete power outage, invite a service technician. Do not risk it in any way.

    • Internal wiring of the plates is made with a special heat-resistant wire. Ensure that the wires are properly routed so that they do not touch sharp edges and hot surfaces. When assembling the instrument, return all parts and wires to their original position.

    • A relatively common problem for heating elements is poor insulation. This can lead to blown fuses or tripping of the machine or RCD.Try turning on the machine or RCD again or replacing the blown fuse, but if the fuse blows again or the machine or RCD is triggered when the power is turned on, do not use the oven until the wizard fixes the problem.
    • To check the grounding of the electric stove, touch one probe of the tester to the bare head of the fixing screw securing the outer panel or an unpainted metal surface of the case or its panel. With the second probe, touch one of the two plate switch cover fixing screws on the plate - they are grounded inside the plate switch. The tester indicator will show if the metal parts of the instrument are grounded. If the tester does not respond, use the services of a specialist to check the electric stove.

    How do I turn on the stove?



    Nowadays, there is a gas or electric stove in every home, but nevertheless, even experienced housewives sometimes do not know how to turn on kitchen stove unfamiliar design.

    How to turn on the gas stove

    Before turning on a new gas stove, carefully study the instructions supplied with it. If you do not have instructions for some reason, or you want to turn on a stove of an unfamiliar design, for example, when cooking at a party or at rented apartment, inspect the front panel of the gas stove - there should be a conventional image on it near each handle, indicating which burner it controls.

    Find the one that matches the stove gas pipe and open the valve embedded in it. Usually, the gas in the pipes is shut off with a ball valve, if you have the same valve installed, turn its handle so that it is parallel to the gas pipe.

    Manual ignition of the burner

    In the simplest stoves, the gas is ignited manually, using matches or a special lighter. Decide which burner you will turn on and find out which knob on the stove corresponds to it. Light a match, bring it to the edge of the burner, sink the handle of the burner (that is, push it slightly), and at the same time turn it counterclockwise. When the gas that started to flow into the burner ignites, quickly remove your hand from the burner and extinguish the match. Set the gas knob to the maximum position, make sure that the gas burns around the entire perimeter of the burner with an even blue flame, then turn the knob to adjust its flow to the value you need.

    In a similar way, you can turn on the gas stove using a lighter, but in this case there is one small nuance - lighters for gas stoves are of two types - piezo or electric lighters. If the piezo lighter, before pressing its button, you just need to remove from the fuse and bring it to the burner, then the electric lighter must first be turned on.

    Built-in burner ignition

    If on the left side of this panel you find a button, near which a spark is schematically drawn, then your stove is equipped with a semi-automatic electric ignition function.

    A gas stove equipped with a semi-automatic or fully automatic electric ignition function is much easier to ignite. In the first option, you just need to press the knob from the burner you need, turn it a quarter of a turn counterclockwise and at the same time press the electric ignition button. When the gas is lit, the flame can be adjusted. In the second option, the gas in the burner will light up immediately after turning the knob without any additional action. Note: most modern gas stoves equipped with a gas supply control system. In such stoves, the handle must not be released immediately after setting the gas on fire, otherwise the burner may go out. To prevent this from happening, the handle should be depressed for about 10 seconds.

    How to turn on the electric stove

    Electric stoves turn on much easier than gas stoves.

    • In classic electric stoves, the burners and the oven are switched on using the controls located on their front panel. The same regulators also change the degree of heating. As a rule, each regulator has four fixed positions, starting from the "0" position, at which the hotplate or oven is completely turned off, and ending with the "3" position, at which the maximum heating is carried out. Normally, the knobs are turned clockwise. In order to turn on such a stove, you just need to turn the knob corresponding to the burner you need in the indicated direction and set it to the desired position.
    • In the most modern slabs with touch control, switching on and selecting a mode is carried out by simply touching the desired buttons.
