    Anna, I hope you enjoy this door stopper and master class, we are waiting for feedback in the comments, and if you make such a stopper yourself, then please share a photo, I think everyone will be interested!

    To begin with, I want to say that I, of course, proceeded from my preferences when making this door stopper, so it is made in chrome color, and decorated in the same style as the flower pot published in! Friends, you can use absolutely any color of paint and threads that, in your opinion, will most harmoniously fit into the interior of your home or summer cottage! The decor of this stopper is combined with the style of the pot for a reason, the fact is that the door stopper does not really interest me, but I need a stopper for the window! For what? Everything is simple, there are pots of flowers on the windowsill, and when the window sash opens to the side, and does not tilt in an upright position, when the breeze blows, it beats against the pots, thereby harming the product itself and, accordingly, the flower in it.

    Dear readers, this stopper has passed the "window test drive", so you can safely use it not only as a door stop, but also for a window! Well, let's proceed directly to the manufacture of the stopper ...

    How to make a plastic bottle door stopper.

    For the manufacture of the product you will need:

    ✓ Plastic bottle (volume 0.33 liters);

    ✓ Small stones or sand;

    ✓ Spray paint (chrome color);

    ✓ PVA glue;

    ✓ Spool of black thread;

    ✓ Scissors;

    ✓ Clay Moment (transparent);

    ✓ Awl or self-tapping screw;

    ✓ Rhinestones or decorative carnations (the legs of the carnations must be “bite off”).

    Plastic bottle door stopper, step-by-step master class.

    1. Fill the prepared bottle with small stones or sand. By the way, select the volume of the bottle yourself, depending on what size you want the door stop. I used a 0.33 liter bottle.

    2. Create a hole in the bottle cap; you can use a knife, awl or self-tapping screw. It seemed to me that it copes with the task perfectly - the self-tapping screw, just screw it in the center of the lid, when the hole becomes suitable for threading the tape (the future stopper handle), unscrew the screw back.

    3. We paint the bottle and lid with spray paint, leave to dry for about 30 minutes.

    4. Decorate the bottle with threads, wrap the entire central part of the painted container. The winding can be done randomly, or you can neatly thread to thread. I am more impressed by the first version of the decor. We fix the ends of the thread with PVA glue (do not fix it for a moment, it corrodes the paint), it is completely invisible after drying.

    5. We pass the tape into the hole of the cover, how to thread it, see the photo below. We tie a knot so that the tape does not slip through the hole. We tighten the cap on the bottle.

    6. We proceed to decorate with rhinestones, in my case decorative carnations, with the legs previously removed. By the way, such decorative elements are sold in the “All for cutting and sewing” departments. We glue decorative carnations on transparent glue. Moment, scatter them over the entire surface of the bottle, i.e. not only in the central part of the product, where we wrapped the threads, but also closer to the bottom and neck. Finally, the product can be coated with a layer of clear varnish if desired.

    You are tired of loud slamming doors and hard-hitting chips on the walls left by the door leaf, so it's time to purchase and install a door opening limiter. Next, we will analyze in detail the types of such devices, and finally we will show how to install a door limiter with our own hands.

    Door openers are quite varied.

    A stool pushed under the door and a homemade wooden wedge are slowly becoming history. Now the industry produces a wide variety of stops, which are sometimes difficult to understand.

    Limiter classification

    In fact, a door stop is one of the varieties of small fittings. Doors are divided into entrance and interior doors, the weight and dimensions of the canvases can vary greatly, respectively, and the stops on the door are different.

    In addition, door restraints can perform different, sometimes opposite functions. It is one thing when you need an emphasis so that the canvas does not hit the wall, and completely different when you need to protect children's fingers from a door that does not close in time.

    But how to make the right choice, if often an ordinary person has a rather vague idea of what kind of mechanism he needs. First, let's go over the basic terms.

    The original design of the door stop.

    • Stops - designed to limit the angle of rotation of the door, and sometimes fix the door leaf at the end point when it comes into contact with the stop;
    • Chippers - needed fucking to soften or prevent the door leaf from hitting a wall or any other object, for example, furniture;
    • Stoppers - these structures must rigidly fix the canvas at a certain point. The most prominent representative of stoppers can be called a well-known chain;
    • Cover plates - prevent the door from completely slamming, leaving a small gap between the jamb and the door leaf;
    • Latches are, in fact, a type of lock, the latch fixes the door in the closed state. There is still no consensus among experts on whether to classify latches as locks or still to stops;
    • A closer - as a rule, this is an entrance door opening limiter. The direct purpose of the closer is to ensure smooth closing of the doors, but there are models that allow the door to be fixed open at a certain point.

    Many modern door closers can be adjusted locally.

    Despite the variety of terms and the countless number of models, all these designs are divided into 3 fundamental areas:

    1. Floor-mounted limiters;
    2. Wall-mounted limiters;
    3. Limiters installed on the door itself.

    Floor models

    A floor stopper for a door is perhaps the most reliable option, because the floor is static, it will not go anywhere, plus the price of most floor models, as a rule, does not "get out" beyond 200 rubles.

    The color of the permanently fixed support-post should be in harmony with the overall design.

    Metal bumpers are stationary stops that are rigidly attached to the floor. The height of such a stop ranges from 3 to 7 cm, the average cylinder diameter is 20 - 30 mm. In order not to "cripple" the door on the post there is a groove with a rubber or polyurethane seal.

    With proper installation, the column itself does not threaten anything, the seals will have to be changed periodically. In the residential area of an apartment or a private house, it is better not to put the columns, as it is easy to trip over them, but as a limiter for opening the front door, the column fits perfectly.

    When choosing such a column, it is better to give preference to shiny and contrasting models. They are at least visible from afar and it is less likely that a person will stumble.

    Semicircular door opening limiter.

    The semicircular door opening stop looks like a quarter-cut ball with a shock-absorbing pad. There is no fundamental difference in the operation of posts and semicircular stops, but when installing the latter, the installation angle must be taken into account so that the door leaf contacts the rubber gasket, and does not hit the metal.

    The magnetic door stop keeps the door open.

    A door stop equipped with a magnet is a more functional design. A small magnet is built into the head of the stationary stop, and a counter metal plate is attached to the door, as a result, the door leaf is fixed when it comes into contact with the stop.

    For entrance doors, magnetic structures, of course, are not very suitable, because the strength of the magnet is not enough to hold the canvas in gusts of wind, but in the room such stops work flawlessly.

    Cork stops only fit the corresponding design.

    Cork, rubber and polyurethane restraints are a kind of the same posts, the only difference is in the material. But before putting such an original emphasis, you need to think carefully, because a soft stopper is not a guarantee that you will not "beat off" your fingers against it, plus the cork is practically invisible on the carpet.

    The ability to close the head of the stop in the latch installed on the door jamb is quite a useful feature. Such devices have proven themselves especially well on the front doors of offices, administrative buildings and shops, in general, wherever a simple retainer can pop out due to carelessness or from a gust of wind.

    A spring stop is a good solution for temporarily fixing the door leaf.

    The design solution is ingeniously simple: on both sides of the flexible steel plate, synthetic anti-slip "hedgehogs" are fixed; you just need to bend the plate slightly and slide it under the doors.

    Such a device is well suited for temporarily securing doors, for example, if you need to bring in furniture. With this stop, even if the door moves from an accidental push, the expensive laminate or parquet floor will remain intact.

    The tapered retainer is the simplest solution to the problem.

    Wedge-shaped, or as they are also called, mobile clamps are now made of different synthetic materials, but in fact they are the same wooden wedges that our grandfathers inserted under the doors, only the outer surroundings have changed. While synthetics should be given their due, such a door stop does not slide on the floor.

    The signal limiter can become the last bastion on the path of the robbers. Cheaper models simply emit a loud sound when the door leaf touches them, and the "advanced" stops silently send a radio signal to some receiving device, for example, to a mobile phone or a security console.

    Wall models

    Installing a door stopper on the wall is an excellent way out for rooms where, for one reason or another, it is not desirable to attach a fixture to the floor, for example, expensive floor coverings such as marble or natural parquet.

    Classic wall-mounted door stop.

    The cost of wall fixtures starts at 150 rubles, although this is not a lot, but still more than that of floor restraints.

    The market leader here is a standard stop with a platform and a rubber bumper attached to the top of a metal rod. It differs from the floor version made of cork by the presence of a wider support platform and a rod from 5 to 15 cm long.

    When choosing, you need to consider what material your wall is from. For monolithic brick or concrete walls, there is no difference, but for drywall you need to buy a device with a wide mounting platform (at least 100x100 mm), otherwise the gypsum board will simply break from a point impact.

    The simplest wall stopper with self-tapping screws.

    The wall-mounted version of the magnetic device can differ from its floor-mounted "brother" only in the length of the rod, otherwise they are identical.

    Often it is not possible to fix the stopper on the floor, and rubber shock absorbers with a rod leave unpleasant marks on the door leaf. In this case, a soft wall cover under the handle will help you.

    Soft synthetics will smoothly extinguish the blow, you do not need to drill the wall to mount the stop, just glue the fixture onto double-sided tape, and most importantly, there are a lot of design options and it will not be difficult to choose a model for your interior.

    Soft model with support under the handle

    There are also stops with a reliable lock in the line of wall fixtures. As shown in the photo below, the mechanism itself is attached to the wall with self-tapping screws, and a hook with a platform is screwed from the bottom end to the door leaf.

    The principle of operation is simple: a rounded door hook, approaching the stopper, raises the movable part and, thanks to a spring, the latch clings. The only inconvenience is that the latch will have to be pushed back manually to release the doors.

    Wall-mounted version of the stop with a lock.

    Overhead devices

    The beauty is that if we are talking about wooden or plastic doors, then you only need a screwdriver to attach such a limiter, and in some cases you can do with one glue. Plus the walls and floor will remain intact.

    In hinged metal stops, the base plate is screwed to the door leaf with self-tapping screws, but during installation, you need to be careful about setting the angle of inclination of the limiter relative to the floor, an acute angle can cause a breakdown of the mechanism. The optimum slope is around 45º.

    In addition, when choosing, it is better to give preference to mechanisms that have a folding spring, they are much more reliable.

    Folding metal door stop.

    The tape stop can be safely called a symbol of simplicity. On both sides of the strong tape, pads for self-tapping screws are attached, you just need to screw these pads to the doors and the jamb.

    True, the appearance of this limiter leaves much to be desired, plus such tapes are frayed or torn quite quickly.

    If you nevertheless decide to buy a tape stop, then it is better to choose elastic stretchable models, their price is not much higher, but such stops are more convenient in operation.

    The tape stop is considered one of the simplest and most affordable options.

    The retractable over-door stop is a rod with a kind of brake shoe. It is installed in a vertical position and you yourself can decide where exactly to fix the structure.

    The retractable door stop is a fairly compact and convenient device.

    The sliding model is designed to rigidly fix the door leaf at certain points, there can be several points, it all depends on the number of cutouts in a solid base groove.

    This device cannot be called completely over the door, since the base part with a groove is attached to the door jamb, and only the movable rod is fixed on the canvas. Although this is not essential, on some models the fasteners can be interchanged.

    The undoubted advantage of such a stop is installation in the upper part of the doors, where it does not bother anyone. On the other hand, in order to release the stem from the locking groove, you will have to reach it, which is not always convenient.

    One of the popular sliding stop models.

    Soft linings prevent the door from slamming. These devices are especially convenient in children's rooms, with such overlays, your child's fingers are much less likely to be pinched in the door. There is no need to talk about installation at all, the elastic is simply put on the door.

    The soft pad is designed to protect the doors from accidental slamming.

    Installation technique

    Installing a door stop is quite simple. We will not talk about the gluing options, you can handle this yourself, as for fixing to self-tapping screws, the instructions are something like this:

    1. We install the door with a gap of about 20 mm between the handle and the wall and mark the position on the floor;
    2. At the mark on the floor, set the emphasis at the desired angle;
    3. We drill a hole for a dowel for a self-tapping screw and insert the dowel itself;
    4. We fasten the stop with a self-tapping screw to the floor.

    Wall and door opening stops are mounted in about the same way, so there is no point in retelling this simple instruction.

    Output

    We have tried to fully reflect all types of door stops. In the video in this article, you will find additional information on this topic.

    To avoid the appearance on the walls of the apartment of traces of door handles that open wide, do-it-yourself door stopper will help. It can be different in appearance. Limiters differ in design, shape, material, color, price, and the place of its attachment. The main thing is that this object fulfills its purpose, stopping the door from banging against the wall when it is opened.

    The limiter is used so that when the door is opened, the handle does not hit the wall, thereby not spoiling its coating.

    Floor door stop

    These indispensable accessories can be purchased at the store. But you can make them yourself. The simplest stop is made of sheet steel. For manufacturing you need to purchase:

    • steel;
    • scissors for metal;
    • drill for metal;
    • hammer;
    • square;
    • pencil;
    • puncher;
    • screwdriver;
    • screws.

    The floor stopper can be made from a self-tapping screw by screwing a wooden or metal knob onto it.

    You can simply cut a strip of steel and bend it at an angle of 90º, or even take and screw a ready-made corner piece used for furniture installation to the floor. But it will not take much time to give the sheet an intricate shape with the help of scissors. With a wider range of tools at hand, cut-throughs or engravings can be made on the steel stop. But, if there are no such tools, you can get by with painting or a layer of varnish.

    Do not make parts protruding towards the door on the stopper, as this will ruin its coating. 2 or more holes are drilled on the underside to secure the stopper to the floor. When installing on a carpet, you should be especially careful, since the pile, when fastened, can wind up on the screw and as a result, a hole is formed. It is better to cut a hole to fit the stopper immediately and only then fix it.

    You can place the door stopper with your own hands in any convenient place; there are no clear rules about its location. They are usually located on a line from the middle of the door leaf to its outer edge. The closer the stop is to the door frame, the more load falls on the door hinges, which loosen faster than usual. Therefore, they place the stopper approximately in the middle, slightly shifting towards the edge.

    When the location for the stopper has been selected, the door is opened so that the distance from the handle of the lock to the wall is at least 1 cm. At this point, the stopper is installed. 2 holes are marked and drilled in the floor, into one of which a fixing dowel is inserted, and into the other a pin or guide pin. The dowel is hammered into the required hole, the stopper is put in place, while you need to carefully monitor that the pin also takes its place. The design is finally fixed.

    It is possible to cut the stopper out of wood, but this material may not be able to handle the stresses of a constantly opening door. Such a figurine must be covered with several layers of durable parquet lacquer.

    Soft door stops

    The soft stopper can be sewn from any fabric and can be decorated with bows, beads and buttons.

    The figurine of such a restraint can be any animal or figure. They are sewn from any fabric. No special tools are needed for installation, and for sewing you will need an almost standard set:

    • tracing paper;
    • fabrics;
    • synthetic fluff, holofiber;
    • pencil or fabric marker;
    • threads to match;
    • sewing machine;
    • threads in color;
    • scissors;
    • tailor's pins;
    • weighting agent;
    • accessories for decorating the stopper.

    The pattern is transferred to tracing paper or drawn directly on it. The size, as a rule, does not exceed 40 cm, but you should not do much less, since it will be difficult for such a figure to cope with its duties. All details are cut from tracing paper and applied to the fabric. The figurine can be solid, but the ears and tail, and sometimes the paws, are often sewn onto the animals. This gives freedom in tailoring and sometimes saves fabric.

    All parts, including the torso, legs, ears and tail, are paired. If you cut them out of fabrics of different shades, the figurine will have more liveliness and it will look more interesting. To cut the pieces evenly, they are pinned to the fabric with pins before chalked around. When cutting, remember about seam allowances, which should be at least 1.5 cm. Paired parts are folded with the right sides and grinded with small stitches on a sewing machine, leaving an area for turning the part out and stuffing it.

    Patterns of soft restraints represent a typical body with a curled tail, and the head can be of any animal.

    Ears, paws and tail, if available, are completely filled with synthetic soft filler and temporarily set aside, since they are sewn to the already finished body at the very last turn. The body as a weighting agent is stuffed with sand or small even stones, which will take about 300 g. the sand did not spill out, you can put it inside tied in several sealed plastic bags. They do the same with pebbles. It is better to choose stones without sharp corners, as they can tear the fabric and damage the door or wall during the operation of the soft stopper.

    The remaining free space inside is tightly filled with synthetic filler, then the filling hole is carefully sewn up with small blind stitches. Paws, ears and tail are sewn into place, if any. The figurine of the animal can be additionally decorated with a scarf, collar or bell on the neck. Everyone decorates the muzzles of animals as he wishes, sewing on beads, buttons or drawing eyes, nose and mouth.

    The finished soft stopper can be hung on the door handle, in this case, it must be large enough to take up space greater than the distance from the door leaf to the end of the door handle.

    You can mount it on the wall in the right place so that the door handle hits it instead of the wall. The weight will help him stay in place and not move from the air currents when the door is opened. You can put such a toy on the floor, but there it will quickly get dirty. And if you do not fix it, then it will move from the desired location.

    In this master class, we will clearly show you how to make a convenient, stylish and practical do-it-yourself door stopper. It will combine: metal, concrete and natural wood. See step-by-step instructions for details.

    Materials (edit)

    To make a stopper for a door with your own hands, prepare:

    • components for the preparation of concrete mortar;
    • a piece of board;
    • U-bolt;
    • Lego;
    • water;
    • a container for diluting a mixture of concrete;
    • epoxy adhesive;
    • grinder;
    • wax, stain or varnish;
    • concrete sealant;
    • needle-nose pliers;
    • block of wood;
    • a piece of thin plastic;
    • roulette;
    • vices or clamps and pieces of lumber.

    Step 1... Decide on the approximate parameters of the stopper that you will be doing. Make sure that the selected piece of board fits your specifications. Start building a concrete mold from Lego pieces.

    Step 2... Mix the concrete solution in the prepared container. It should be similar in consistency to shortbread dough.

    Step 3... On the desktop, fix the shape of Lego blocks with clamps, prudently sending a piece of board or plastic to the bottom of it.

    Step 4... Pour the concrete mortar into the prepared mold. You can create vibrations for better shrinkage using a conventional sander. Just hold it against the wall of the mold and turn it on for a short period of time.

    Step 5... Take a block of wood and a curved bolt. Place the bolt with the ends in the concrete solution, and so that it does not fall into it, send a block under the resulting handle. Adjust the workpiece to the height of the handle. Leave everything until the concrete has completely hardened.

    Step 6... Using needle-nose pliers, disassemble the mold of the Lego blank.

    Step 7... Smooth sharp corners using a sander, sandpaper or sanding block.

    Step 8... Let the concrete piece dry thoroughly within two weeks. In the meantime, adjust the piece of board that will be sent to the base of the stopper to the specified parameters. Sand it and treat it with wood stain, wax or varnish.

    Step 9... To seal the concrete and give it a better appearance, cover the workpiece with an appropriate material. This is a mandatory step for street side stoppers.

    Step 10... Glue the concrete top of the stopper to the wood base. To do this, use epoxy glue. Until the adhesive is completely dry, send the workpiece under a press from clamps and pieces of board. A wooden base is needed to prevent the concrete from scratching the floors.

    The door of the toilet is "held" by a toy elephant so that cats can safely enter and go out on their feline business. At the same time, so that everything was not wide open, but still at least some kind of illusion of their toilet secret remained. The door to the little nursery is kept by the typewriter or the husband's slippers when he is not at home ... .. Does it sound familiar? Yeees…. And I noticed this not only at home. Often, any objects that fall under the arms and legs are used to hold the door.

    In fact, there is a very simple and beautiful solution that you can make with your own hands and is called this "overseas fruit" - a stopper for a door (from the English doorstopper or doorstop, which means - door stopper or door stopper). Yes, yes ... google it! You will see a lot of pictures and different types of stoppers. Choose - I don't want to. I managed to make a stopper, which not only stopped the door so that it would not close, but also did not let it slam, if suddenly a draft came from nowhere. The second stopper is for cats and their tuda-syuda hikes, so that the door is always closed, but not closed. Now I don't have slippers and elephants holding the doors in the house, but such beautiful things!

    but it was like this :)))

    So. what did i need?

    The first stopper to prevent the door from slamming.

    • Textile. I have used thick cotton from Ikea. Size 45x20 cm + allowances. Two details.
    • Lightning... 15-18 cm. Needed in order to get, change the filling or wash the cover. You can do without it, manually sew it up - it's also quite an option.
    • Filler... Budget - barley, dry peas, lentils, beans - whatever your heart desires, to your taste, so to speak. Even more budgetary - we collect sand or stones on the street with children or with a young man. True, the stones should be washed, the sand should be calcined in the oven, otherwise…. cats, dogs ... ..you understand.

    Sew the details along the perimeter, leaving the narrow one side not sewn. Can be overcast with a zigzag. Turned out, ironed out the seams.

    Next, you need to sew in a zipper. Yes Yes. I have blue lightning. And not because I am color blind, but because I had one. And we sculpt beauty from improvised means? well ... that's why the lightning is blue. The main thing is to sew it in deeper and no one will see it. Of course, you can go to specialized stores, buy everything in color and suit. But ... I don't have enough time, therefore, as I always say - "We work with what we have!"

    I liked pearl barley. It turned out that 2 kilos went into the stopper's mouth like a black hole. By the way, it turned out to be a very pleasant product to the touch. It rustles, sprinkles there inside…. The husband put it under his neck and head and said that he would take it instead of a relax roller. The older child drags like a dumbbell and plays with a stopper "in the towns" in the corridor. In general, everyone in the family is happy with the appearance of a miracle in the house, each in its own way.

    The second stopper "bag with gifts" was sewn in an hour, probably in total. The fabric is cotton and the lining is linen. Two rectangles - 25x42 cm + allowances. Two circles with a diameter of 13 + allowances. We sew a bag-bag, we sew the bottom for the outer cover and for the lining. You can sew without lining, but with it the look is much more interesting. The heart and twine ties were spied somewhere. The filling is the same pearl barley. 1 kilo. In fact, you can make it smaller, the bag will be tighter and keep its shape better.

    Like this! And you, believe me, need this in the house. And now I need to sew both my friend (I came to visit and she liked the idea) and my mother-in-law as many as two, because at least I supported all this with decent slippers, but hers were old, well-worn .... Not okay oooh…. She may not need it, but I will still please the person! Bye everyone! 🙂
