• What can be cooked from squid: quick and tasty

    When you have an apartment, you undoubtedly want to make it cozier, more comfortable and more. Currently, one of the ways to visually enhance your home is to create arches instead of doors.

    Various photos of arches show how diverse they are and how much they change. appearance housing. It is about how to make an arch with your own hands that will be briefly described below.

    Types of arches

    The arch is an opening in the wall that does not have an overlap in the form of a door. Their types differ only in the upper part, or rather in how the corners are constructed (straight, rounded or curly).

    In the modern world, there are 7 types of arches:

    • classic;
    • "Modern";
    • "romance";
    • ellipse;
    • trapezoid;
    • "portal";
    • semi-arch.

    The first four types have rounded corners and differ only in the shape of the rounding.

    So a classic arch is a semicircle with a radius of half the width of the opening; "Modern" has a small corner radius; "Romance" and the ellipse are similar and represent the usual rounded corners.

    The trapezoid and the portal are another matter. These two types use sharp corners. At the trapezoid, the top, respectively, represents this figure, and the "portal" is an ordinary opening without a door.

    However, even an unremarkable "portal" can be made to sparkle with new colors, giving the supports the appearance of columns in the antique style (Greek or Roman).

    A trapezoid, although it is a rather unusual solution, is not suitable for any style, therefore it is used much less often than other options for arches.

    The last type is a semi-arch, as the name implies, is 1 rounded and 1 right angle. This type of arch began to be used recently, but it has already gained popularity.

    It is up to you to decide which arch to install in the apartment, but we will dwell on drywall arches in more detail, as the most convenient material for building.

    Step-by-step instructions for creating an arch

    Choosing the future shape of the arch. It is important that it matches the overall style of the premises that will connect.

    We clean the opening from the plaster and level it. It is simple here - the cleaner the work surface, the more reliable the fastening.

    We fasten the arch frame. We construct the frame itself from a profile (it is possible from wooden bars).

    We attach the cut-out drywall arch (one side) to the frame. To get the arch of the desired type, in the middle of the plasterboard base we make a hole for the nail. We tie a string to it and get homemade compasses... Now, by changing the length of the rope, you can change the radius of rounding of the corners and their appearance.

    We apply drywall on the other side and mark the arch on it, as if using a stencil, then cut it out and fasten it to the frame.

    In no case should this be done on the floor, since the opening is usually asymmetrical, which has a detrimental effect on the accuracy of the one-to-one marking.

    Note!

    We measure the resulting arc and make a tape for fastening from the profile. After that, we attach the resulting tape to the arch with self-tapping screws.

    We install jumpers. Their size is calculated simply: the depth of the arch is minus 1.5 centimeters, the material of manufacture is a metal profile, less often wood. We attach a sheet of drywall to the end of the opening with self-tapping screws.

    We carry out Finishing work(we level it with putty, wipe possible holes, paint, or glue the wallpaper).

    Other ways to make an arch

    You can also make an arch in the opening in two other ways. The difference between these methods of creating an arch is in fixing drywall.

    In the second version, it is attached to the lintels not with a whole sheet, but with specially cut pieces (set) using a special solution (water, putty plus PVA glue) and this should be done without delay, since the solution hardens very quickly.

    Note!

    The third option provides for wooden lintels, planted with glue. Drywall in the opening is also glued to the lintels.

    How to bend drywall?

    In addition, the question may arise: how to bend drywall? Thin cardboard (6 mm) is best for this.

    And there are at least 2 ways to bend it:
    Method 1 - roll a roller on cardboard to break the gypsum in it, soak it in water and gradually screw it to the tape with self-tapping screws.

    Method 2 - make cuts in drywall every 4-5 centimeters. When you attach it to the end of the opening, the material at the place of the cuts will burst and better adhere to the wall surface.

    We wish you good luck with your work!

    Do-it-yourself photo of the arch

    Note!

    In this material, we will look at how to mount drywall arches with our own hands. The photos and diagrams below will help you better understand some of the intricacies of the installation process.

    How to make a drywall arch with your own hands: step by step instructions

    We will start making a drywall arch with measurements.

    Taking measurements

    The dimensions of the object. For example, we have a doorway in brick wall 2 100 mm high and 800 mm wide. The top point of the arch will be at a height of 2,000 mm, and because opening width - 800 mm, the radius of the arch will leave half the width - 400 mm. Thus, the lowest point of the arch will be 2,000 - 400 = 1,600 mm.

    Photo 1 - Working area

    We mount the UD-27 profile along the perimeter of the opening (on both sides). We calculate the required profile length as follows:

    (800 + 400 + 400) * 2 = 3 200 (mm), i.e. 3.2 running meters.

    In order to fix the UD-27 profile on the wall, we need a perforator and hammer-in dowels 6x40 mm (6x60 mm). Before mounting, holes are made in the profile for mounting (the fixing step will be 300 mm).

    Photo 2 - Carrying out measurements

    Scheme 1 - Total consumption of materials for the arch

    Layout work

    In order to cut out a piece of plasterboard with the desired bending radius, we need a plasterboard plate with a size of at least 800x400 mm.

    Place the plasterboard horizontally. You need to work on a flat surface - a wide tabletop or on the floor.

    In a sheet of drywall on the longer side, we make two holes with a diameter of no more than 4 mm at a distance of 400 mm from each other.

    Using a wooden ruler, the length of which is 410 mm and more, after 400 mm from the extreme point, set the mark "1".

    IMPORTANT! Alternatively, instead of a ruler, you can use the UD-27 or CD-60 profile sections. A margin along the length of the ruler is needed to fasten the self-tapping screw in the center of the sheet, as well as a pencil for drawing the contour of the arch bend.

    Photo 7 - Stroke the outline of the arch

    In the mark "1" on the self-tapping screw, we fix the end of the ruler or metal profile.

    First from the edge drywall sheet we put a point with a pencil, fixing the lead to the end of the ruler and, turning the ruler over a sheet of drywall, draw a circle of the desired diameter.

    Cut out the profile

    Using a hand hacksaw on drywall, we cut out the part according to the marking. According to this scheme, we need to cut two identical parts from drywall.

    We attach one of the details of the arch to the profiles bolted to the wall according to the marks. This work is best done with a partner who can hold the drywall. If working alone, the plasterboard piece can be attached with one or two screws.

    Please note: there is a surplus at the bottom of the fixed profiles that needs to be cut to fit the arch. We make the appropriate markings and, setting aside the drywall sheet, cut the profile with metal scissors or a grinder. You should perform this operation 4 times - with each of the 4 profiles fixed vertically.

    Installation of arch parts

    After trimming the profile, you can proceed to fixing the previously made parts of the arch. The step of fastening drywall to the UD-27 profile is from 250 to 300 mm.

    We calculate the length of the profiles for attaching drywall to the radius of the arch.

    From the formula for the length of a circle (2πR), we know all the quantities: π = 3.14, R = 400.

    We only work with half a circle. Thus, we have:

    2πR / 2 = πR = 3.14 * 400 = 1 256 (mm)

    Those. fastening is necessary to close the bend of the arch, its length must be at least 1 256 mm.

    We make a curved profile for this fastener.

    Bend the profile

    How to bend a profile?

    Using metal scissors on both sides of the profile, we make symmetrical cuts with a step of 40 mm, since it is almost impossible to bend the profile in shape without cuts.

    After making the cuts, the profile must be bent along the existing radius.

    Fastening the arched profile

    How to assemble a bent profile structure?

    We begin to fix the profile from the lower end of the arch, gradually screwing the part to the drywall. Fastening the profile to the drywall should be done with a screwdriver and drywall screws, type MN 25.

    Scheme 2 Arch

    The bending points of the profile are screwed with an underestimation of 2-3 mm into the inside of the structure.

    IMPORTANT! The profile should not protrude beyond the edge of the arch.

    Having reached the opposite end of the drywall bend, secure the profile with a self-tapping screw and cut off the excess, if any.

    The second option for attaching the arched profile is from the middle: having connected the central bending point of the drywall and the center of the arched profile, first screw the profile on one side of the structure with self-tapping screws, and then the other.

    IMPORTANT! If the distance from the center point of the upper edge of the drywall to the center of the arch bend is 600 mm or more, it is imperative to install jumpers made of the CD-60 profile to hold the structure.

    The manufacture of a drywall arch completes the installation of a curved sheet in doorway.

    Making a curved plasterboard part

    How to make a curved plasterboard part?

    Interior drywall arches rarely do without curved parts.

    Craftsmen use the following options for manufacturing this structural element:

    • you can purchase a thinner drywall - up to 9.5 mm thick (the device of a curved part when using such material is greatly facilitated due to its pliability and plasticity);
    • the second option concerns rather not the material used for work, but the dimensions of the arch, since the larger the radius of the arch, the easier it will be to bend the drywall sheet;
    • You can also bend drywall with a wet method, moistening the sheet with water and walking over it with a needle roller, and then fixing it on a template for bending.

    IMPORTANT! Shaped parts for the manufacture of a drywall arch in the corridor, in the hallway or in any other room should be cut with a width less than the width of the wall by 4 mm. In our case, you will need a piece measuring 1 230x296 mm (since the width of the structure is 300 mm).

    We will also bend drywall using the "wet" method, but without perforating the sheet, because thin drywall is used: with a roller or sponge, you need to abundantly wet the drywall on both sides and after 15-20 minutes gently attach it to the arched profiles.

    The fastener step should be no more than 15-20 cm.

    Finishing of seams and putty of joints

    After that, you can start finishing the seams and puttying the joints of the drywall sheets.

    How to putty the joints of gypsum plasterboards?

    The assembly seams are filled with putty, after which a serpyanka tape is applied to the seam and putty again. This is followed by the putty of the grooves from the self-tapping screws and the finishing of the sheets.

    How to decorate an arch? The design of a drywall arch is often reduced to the installation of built-in lighting. In this case, spotlights can be hidden in the wall, and not just at the bend of the drywall. An illuminated arch is not only a beautiful, but also a functional object in the interior.

    Drywall semi-arcade

    A semi-arch is a popular type of plasterboard structures that decorate doorways.

    It is distinguished from the arch by a simplified frame: wall profiles are mounted only on one of the walls, i.e. as a result, the semi-arch is a quarter of a circle inscribed in the doorway.

    Making a semi-arch with your own hands

    The semi-arch is installed according to the same principle as the plasterboard arch, but only in the "half" version of the work. Therefore, you should not have any problems with how to build a semi-arch. Assembly and preparatory work with this type of construction even less than with the standard version.

    In addition to the semi-arch, there are also other types of arch, shown below in the photo.

    The work used

    • dowels 6x40 or 6x60 mm for fixing profiles to walls (pitch up to 400 mm);
    • self-tapping screws LN 9, LN 11 (self-tapping screws, with a sharp end), or LB 9, LB 11 (self-tapping screws with a drilling end);
    • self-tapping screws MN 25, MN 30 for fastening plasterboard sheets to a metal frame.

    $ Cost of drywall arch

    How much does it cost to install a drywall arch

    in Moscow - from 190 rubles / m²;

    in Kiev - from 56 UAH / m² (price for gypsum plasterboard figured structures).

    Pivot constructions in the form arched openings have already become familiar in the interiors of houses. With simple, straightforward models from gypsum plasterboard, with certain skills, many cope on their own, but it is often difficult to make a frame for an arch from drywall.

    An example of installing a frame for a drywall arch The process of making such a product is more laborious, requires accuracy of calculation, patience, but the result will also bring satisfaction from your work.

    In addition to rectilinear forms of drywall, make different types arched structures.
    Types of arches:

    1. Classic, with the same arcuate equilateral bevels.
    2. Asymmetrical, roundings differ from each other in shape.
    3. Semi-arch, beveled surface only on one side of the opening.
    4. Gothic shape with a pointed shape in the middle of the arc.
    5. Wavy from several arcuate elements.
    6. Arch in oriental style, domed.

    7. In addition, openings, wall structures vary in size. All of them are made according to the same principle, but the craftsmen use different techniques and techniques.

      An example of the design of a doorway with a drywall arch

      Selection of drywall and profiles

      To make a frame for an arch from drywall, in the manufacture of curved structures, an arched profile and drywall are produced. The sheet is reinforced with fiberglass, unlike wall gypsum board, it bends easily, does not break.

      A profile for the manufacture of curved structures is a perforated tape with cuts and bending stiffeners, outward and inward.

      It differs by:

      The standard side shelf height is 27 mm. Sizes vary depending on the manufacturer.
      made of specially designed materials makes the process much easier. But not always in building markets, especially in peripheral areas, you can purchase an arched profile and gypsum board.

      Craftsmen have adapted to make curved structures from wall metal racks, drywall. An alternative to the profile can be wooden bar.

      Materials and tools

      Before proceeding with the manufacture of arched structures, it is necessary to determine the method of its manufacture. Will specialized materials be used (flexible gypsum board and profiles) or ordinary wall gypsum, profile. The purchase of materials will depend on this.

      Diagram with the dimensions of the drywall arch frame
      Materials:

      1. (flexible, wall).
      2. Profiles, wooden beams.
      3. Fasteners.

      The sequence of making the arch, methods

      The sequence of actions for the construction of arched structures is the same, they differ in the techniques that are used for assembly.

      Drawing with the dimensions of the frame for an arch made of gypsum plasterboard Frame for an arch made of plasterboard, the algorithm of actions:

      1. Determined with the size and shape of the future structure.
      2. Then they prepare an opening for it.
      3. Measure the length of the profile, prepare it.
      4. Fasten the guide profile into the opening.
      5. GKL sheets are cut in the shape of an arch.
      6. Screw the bent profile to the cut drywall.
      7. Attach the prepared structure to the guides.
      8. Then the sidewalls are sewn up with bending, pre-prepared sheets.
      9. The ends of the arch are processed.

      Consider how to assemble arched structures.

      How to make a frame for a drywall arch: the installation process

      Pay attention to the next point. With an opening height of up to 2 meters, it is impractical to make an arch in it, since it makes it visually lower. Functional standard opening must be at least two meters.

      We prepare the opening

      They are leveled and sewn up with drywall, less often with wood or plywood. GKL sheets are glued to the walls, checking or with a building corner.

      If the width of the opening allows or the entire partition is made on, racks are set up and sewn up.

      Installing the guide profile

      The next step is to secure the guide profile. More often used for this brand PN (bearing profile) 50/40 (wall), self-tapping screws 3.2 x 45 (35) mm, for metal for plasterboard structures. Fastened along the upper perimeter of the opening on both sides. 1.2-1.3 cm recede from the edge (the width of the plasterboard sheet).

      Before fixing the guides, it is necessary to mark the points of the horizon from which the construction of the arch structure will be based. The floors may not be perfectly flat, so it is not always possible to take measurements from them. To do this, mark an equal distance from the floor and draw a horizontal line. From it, the height of the fastening of the guide profiles is noted.

      Cutting an arched shape

      We decide on the shape of the future arch. Measure the width and height.

      A variant of the design and shape of a drywall arch You can immediately cut a square, screw it to the guides and draw a structure on it, correct its shape and cut it out. But it is more difficult to work on weight, it is easier to assemble an arch on the floor or table.
      For this:

      There is no need to rush, since the gypsum board sheet is a rather fragile material, chips may appear on it with sharp jerks of a jigsaw or saw.

      Installation of a profile to a workpiece made of gypsum plasterboard

      When an arched profile is used, measurements of the arcuate part of the arch are sufficient. Then cut out the workpiece and fasten with self-tapping screws (TV or TN, length 25 mm). But often craftsmen make a profile from wall posts.

      Assembled frame of an interior arch from gypsum plasterboard How to prepare a rack for an arch:

      The corners at the ends of the profile are cut at an angle of approximately 45⁰. The structure is thus ready to be attached to an arched opening.

      Arch installation

      All stages of installation work must be checked using a level and a building angle.
      Sequence of work:

      In general, the main structure of the arched opening is ready, it remains to sew up the lateral concave surface with drywall. Watch in the video detailed process making a frame for a drywall arch.

      Sewing up the lateral concave surface of the gypsum board

      In the case of using an arched gypsum board, it is enough to cut a piece to size, attach it to the structure.
      If wall, ceiling gypsum is used, then there are two ways to bend it dry and wet.

      Dry method

      On a workpiece cut to size, transverse cuts are made with a construction knife, cutting through paper and slightly gypsum. Apply it to the side surface, breaking along the incisions. The step of the notches depends on the bending angle, on average from 4 to 8 cm.

      Dry method of bending drywall for an arch

      Wet method

      A blank from a sheet of gypsum board is laid on a stool or in a shape specially knocked out of boards, which corresponds to the size of the arch. Frequent small notches are made on the inner surface or a needle roller is used for these purposes. Moisten the surface from the inside with a wet sponge, put a wet damp cloth on top. After 15 - 20 minutes, the gypsum will begin to bend, and after 1.5-2 hours it will take the desired shape.

      Then it is carefully taken out or removed from the stand, applied to the side surface of the structure, and fixed. It is necessary to handle the material extremely delicately, it is better to carry out this stage of work with an assistant.

    Corridor or interior arches come in different configurations. Their main differences are in the shape of the upper part, as well as in the methods of connection with the vertical components.

    In addition to the arch, peculiar semi-arches are also popular, having a rounded corner on only one side. Such elements are perfectly played in modern interiors such as art deco, minimalism and hi-tech.

    The classic arch has a regular top. This is usually a standard semicircle with a radius equal to one-half of the opening width.

    There are many types of unusual drywall arches:

    • The Art Nouveau arch is characterized by a relatively small radius of curvature, as well as a rather abrupt transition at the junction with the vertical parts of the opening. It is more often used in rooms where the ceiling and walls have a fairly simple structure. Installed at the entrance to the office, on site former door to the balcony.
    • The romantic model has more rounded corners. It is preferred in cases where the opening does not have too much great height and sufficient width.
    • The ellipse arch is quite close to romance. The main difference is the increased curvature. Also used in wide and low openings. Looks sleeker and softer than the previous type.
    • The trapezoid, which is made up of short broken lines, can be considered an original non-standard type of design. It is quite difficult to beat it in the interior, and for this reason it is not so often chosen. Usually for solving problems with non-standard designs.
    • Another design option is a portal. It can be framed in wood or with smaller portals located next to it. It looks like a regular opening, only without the door leaf itself. For originality, it is often framed with carved wood elements. Such elegant columns are not only suitable for classic interiors, but also for various ethno-styles - Roman or Greek.

    First you need to decide on the location of the future arch.

    You can build it wherever you please, in any area of the dwelling. But in order for such an element to fit perfectly into the design, you need a doorway of at least 2.5 meters. It will look great in any interior, but it is most suitable as an alternative kitchen door or for a long corridor.
