• What can be cooked from squid: quick and tasty

    Shelves are quite often used not only to complement and decorate the overall interior of a room, but also for a clearer and more efficient organization of space. Thanks to their use, the owner of the apartment gets the opportunity to conveniently arrange a huge number of small things that will simply get lost in the closets.

    Today on the market there are a lot of different models that are made of different materials... They also differ in design.

    You can choose not only products with a classic design, but also ultra-modern designs.

    But more and more often people prefer to make such interior details on their own. Asking the question of how to make a shelf with their own hands, they re-read a lot of literature and look through many catalogs.

    However, this does not mean that self-production the shelf is complex and it is beyond the power of a person who does not have special skills. No, this is absolutely not the case.

    Familiarization with the literature in this case is necessary in order to create a product with beautiful design that will fit into the overall interior. Let's consider in more detail what kind of shelves there are.

    Varieties of shelves

    Any specialist will tell you that before starting to create a product, you need to decide for yourself what kind of design you want to get and whether it will be combined with the interior. And only after that you can start creating the product.

    Indeed, for a house decorated in a classically consistent style, it is completely unacceptable to use ultra-fashionable and modern shelves... They will look extremely ridiculous.

    The most popular and widely known shelf type is the classic shelf. This is due to the fact that it is quite easy to install it, and appearance due to its simplicity, it seems refined and sophisticated.

    Open, closed shelves are also used with success. Closed products are used most often for decoration and installation in rooms decorated in more modern styles... For their construction, glass and sometimes plastic are used.

    Open structures can be used both in modernly decorated houses and in apartments with a classic design. Over the past few years, it is this type of shelf that has gained immense popularity and therefore is gradually replacing the classic options.

    In small rooms, you can often see corner shelves, which have a special way of fastening. They are mounted on adjacent walls that are adjacent to each other. They are most commonly used in bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms.

    In addition to the above types of shelves that are mounted on the wall, there are hanging and floor structures... Hanging shelves are mounted in an unusual way.

    They are installed with cables and uprights, and are attached directly to the ceiling. This mount looks quite unusual and original.

    Floor structures are most often used in hallways. After all, it is the hand-made floor shelves for shoes that not only look beautiful, but also help you organize the space of a small hallway. At the same time, making them is quite simple.

    How to make a simple shelf?

    To create the claimed product, you should purchase or prepare some tools and materials in advance. You can use whichever suits you best as connecting elements. But the most popular are ordinary self-tapping screws, brackets and dowels.

    Note!

    For example, let's take a photo of the shelves with our own hands, which is presented below. It shows a product with the following parameters: width 250 mm, height 300 mm, length 1100 mm. For convenience, the manufacturing process will be divided into stages.

    Stages of work

    In the first step, you need to do the markup. To do this, you should lay the boards on a table or any other flat surface and transfer measurements from the drawings. The side walls must be exactly 268 mm high.

    This marking is optimal because the side walls will be located between the two parts.

    At the second stage, it is required to cut the boards. To get even and neat cuts, you must use a jigsaw. After cutting, you will have 2 fairly long pieces and 2 shorter ones.

    At the third stage, you can start processing the resulting blanks. The resulting segments should be covered with a special protective varnish or stain, after having polished them.

    Note!

    In the event that you only plan to paint the shelf, you can get by with a conventional antiseptic primer. So you will not only increase the service life, but also achieve a more even distribution of paint.

    At the fourth stage of making a wooden shelf with your own hands, you proceed to its direct assembly. Place the bottom board on a flat surface. Depart 8 mm from the ends of the workpiece and draw two lines parallel to the cuts.

    On them, 2 points should be marked with a distance of 5 cm from the edge. At the marked points, it is necessary to drill holes for self-tapping screws. The same manipulations must be done with the second workpiece.

    After that, you should install the side blanks on the bottom section of the board and secure them. Once you're done attaching the side panels, proceed with the installation top panel and its consolidation.

    At the fifth stage, you should fix the brackets at the ends of the side panels, and make several holes in the wall for the dowels. Then screw in the self-tapping screws so that they protrude by 5 mm. And now your shelf is ready.

    You can make acoustic shelves in the same way, but you need to take into account the dimensions of the equipment itself. Measurements should be done carefully, because if you are wrong, the work will have to start over.

    DIY LED shelves

    Thanks to this workshop, you will learn how to create LED shelves with your own hands. They can be both an additional source for zone lighting and a full-fledged highlight of the interior.

    To do this, you should prepare:

    • wooden boards;
    • LED strips, wires and power supplies for them;
    • carpentry and hot glue;
    • masking tape and electrical tape;
    • saw, sander, clamps
    • soldering iron and solder;
    • drill;
    • clamps;
    • milling cutter;
    • screws and fasteners.

    Step 1. Cutting the boards

    First, you need to decide on the size of the future shelves. After that, cut the prepared boards into the required number of elements. Cut the ends of each element at an angle of 45 degrees.

    Along the entire length of the boards, which will serve as the sides of the shelf, use a router to make grooves. They are best placed at a distance of 1.5-2.5 cm from the back wall. LED strips will be placed there in the future.

    Step 2. Assembling the shelf

    On work surface line the masking tape with the adhesive side facing you. Lay the shelf parts directly onto the tape. Thanks to it, the boards will not slip, moreover, it will serve as an additional fastener when gluing.

    Apply wood glue to the cut surfaces of the shelves and connect them together in such a way that you get a box. Wait for the glue to dry.

    Glue the boards together, which will become the back walls of the shelves. For the reliability of gluing, secure them with clamps. After drying, attach the shelves to the back wall.

    Step 3. Installing the mounts

    If you wish, you can paint the mounts to match the color of the shelves, or vice versa, make them contrasting. After the elements have dried, fasten them to the corner joints of the outer part of the shelves.

    Step 4. Attachment to the base

    Adjust the MDF sheet to the desired dimensions and paint it.

    Attach the shelves to the sheet in any order you like. This is done in order to hide all the elements of the LED backlight.

    Step 5. Installing the LED strip

    Cut the LED strip into pieces of the length you need. Make a hole in one of the shelves in the corner, then use a soldering iron to solder the power supply wires to the tape itself.

    If you want to freshen up the design of your home, then you can use the modern trick of many designers - the lighting of glass shelves. led strip... For example, they can be installed in the bathroom, living room, kitchen and more. LED lights DIY glass shelves are done very quickly.

    Features of illuminated glass shelves

    Although the backlight plays a more decorative role, in practice it visually expands the space of the room. In this case, the backlight color can be completely different, ranging from white to purple. It is possible to change the shades of the backlighting of glass shelves to your liking, using RGB tape. So, the backlight will smoothly change as you wish. It is very easy to operate. It is enough to install a special radio transmitter or controller at a distance, which is connected to the backlight system using wires. Using the controller, you can change the colors of the backlight and add different effects, for example, change the brightness or add flicker. This is especially effective when there is a desire to constantly change the image of the room depending on the time of day. As a rule, LED backlighting does not take up much space and is very light in weight. This allows you to use it in other interior elements, for example, on crystal figurines.

    If you use glass shelves for storing flowers, then LED lighting will absolutely not damage them. It does not overheat the flowers and will last for many years.

    To build a backlight for shelves made of glass, a special anodized aluminum profile is often used. The thickness of this profile, into which the glass is inserted, is 8 mm. Thus, light will "flow" through the glass, reflecting off the edges of the surface. At the same time, the tape itself remains invisible. The advantage of this technique is that the LED strip does not emit UV, so it can be used as an alternative or addition to the main lighting of the home. In addition to ribbons, you can also use spot lighting, which is much simpler, and for complex options, you can use modular LED lighting.

    Types and methods of lighting installation

    You can make the backlighting of the shelves yourself in a wide variety of designs. Moreover, the work in most cases is simple. Consider the types of LED lighting installations for glass shelves:

    End lighting. In order for the illumination to be from the end of the glass shelf, the tape is installed on the back of the shelf support. Otherwise, it can be glued to the plane of the shelf support.

    Traditional lighting. In this version, the usual illumination is made for items located on a glass shelf. The tape is glued to the wall in the upper or lower position.

    It is important to choose a position so that the tape does not shine into the eyes.

    Illumination from the end of the shelf. In this version of the illumination, it will turn out to make a uniform glow from the outer end of the shelf.

    Frosted glass backlight. If your interior uses frosted glass, then you can mount the LED strip in any of the listed options. For example, glue in an aluminum profile.

    Installation of LED lighting in 4 steps!

    The whole process of gluing LED strip to glass shelves can be done in four steps. The work is carried out in the following sequence:

    Usually in such profiles there is a plastic insert. You cannot delete it. This insert will protect the tape from contact with aluminum. Otherwise, a short circuit will occur.
