• What can be cooked from squid: quick and tasty

    Have you invited guests and want to impress them? Then you cannot do without a beautiful table setting, that is, an elegant tablecloth, beautiful dishes and suitable cutlery. The serving tray is not an integral part of the evening party, but if you plan on serving snacks and drinks during the meal, it will prove to be extremely useful. In this article, we will show you how to make a do-it-yourself serving tray.

    Materials:

    • new cutting board (preferably rectangular without a handle)
    • long handles for drawers, 2 pcs.

    Instruments:

    • drill with drills
    • tape measure or ruler
    • pencil

    How to make a do-it-yourself serving tray

    Place the drawer handles on the cutting board surface, aligning them with the edges and centerline. Use a pencil to draw a line to help you determine where the pens will be.

    Remove the handles, determine at what distance the threaded holes are located to fix them from the surfaces, the position of which is indicated by the marking lines.

    Using these measurements, mark the points where you want to drill the screw holes.

    Memo: remember that it is better to measure seven times and cut only once

    Drill holes at the appropriate points. The diameter of the holes must match or slightly exceed the diameter of the screws used.

    Memo: To prevent the front surface of the cutting board from being damaged when drilling holes, place a wooden plank or block under the board.

    Use the screws to secure the handles in place. If there are no rubber feet on the cutting board, the screws will have to be sunk in to prevent them from damaging the table surface. But it is better to install such legs anyway, it will be more convenient to use the serving tray with them.

    That's all! A simple and stylish tray is ready. You can safely receive guests.

    What is required of a great tray? Of course, so that it is comfortable to hold, and that nothing rolls off of it. The creation presented in this master class meets these two conditions. Made from natural wood and painted in a beautiful shade, it will suit many styles.

    Note: To make a wooden tray with your own hands, you can buy everything you need at hardware stores. Choose the color of varnish or paint that you like. But keep in mind that you need to paint the tray with such a varnish or paint that does not have a very pungent odor. They also need to be stable, not harmful.

    In this master class, you can learn how to make your own 60 cm long and 32 cm wide.If you wish, you can change the dimensions at your discretion. It is desirable to make the handles rounded. By the way, the slots for them are much easier to make than it seems.

    Necessary tools and materials for making a wooden tray

    The lion's share of the work in this master class will be performed by a jigsaw. This is work on creating rounded shapes and holes for handles. To cut holes for the handles, you will also need an electric drill with a 2.5 cm spatula drill. Such a special drill, firstly, creates holes larger than 1 cm in diameter, and secondly, makes them perfectly even. You will also need hand saw or any similar power tool for cutting off unnecessary pieces of planks.

    You cannot do without a hammer, a segment knife or massive scissors, a tape measure (measuring tape), a square, a simple pencil, paint brush or foam swab, old newspapers and rubber gloves. If you are going to make a DIY tray, a bendable metal ruler is also useful to create rounded edges for the tray, although it is not necessary to purchase one.

    For this master class, you will need boards made of durable (solid) wood. For example, red oak. Choose a thickness in the region of 2-3 cm.With a thickness of 2.5 cm, you need two boards measuring 6.5x56 cm, two boards 9x32 cm, and one - 32x61 cm.

    To paint the tray, you will need a wood stain or wood stain and varnish. If you work at home, opt for water-soluble products that do not have a pungent and unpleasant odor, and dries much faster. If it is possible to dry the boards outside, a polyurethane or oil-based varnish will do.

    DIY tray making

    Marking handle holes

    Mark the holes for the holes on the 9x32 cm boards (see photo). The main thing here is to accurately and accurately designate the shape of future pens.

    Mark the center line of the board (16 cm). Step back from it 5 cm to the right and left and mark 2 points in these places. Mark with vertical lines where the centers of the drilled holes will be. The hole for the handle should be at least 1.8 cm away from the top edge of the board.For example, if the height of the hole for wooden handles is 2.5 cm (as in our project), this means that the points for drilling holes will be distant 3.1 cm from the top of the tray. Mark these points on the vertical lines you draw.

    Drilling holes

    Use a 2.5 cm drill to drill the holes as accurately as possible. If you don't have a special drilling machine(as shown in the photo), follow these guidelines. Press the drill down at the marked point before starting drilling. This will help align it. During the process, keep the drill strictly perpendicular to the board - no drilling at an angle.

    Cutting holes

    Draw a straight line on the board with a pencil, connecting the top and bottom points drilled holes... The resulting lines will serve as guides for the movement of the jigsaw saw. The blade should move from the inside of the line. Do everything very carefully. Process the resulting hole sandpaper... The edges of the handles should be smooth without sharp corners.

    Assembling the tray

    Using photos as diagrams for making a tray with your own hands, proceed with the assembly. To a 32x61 cm board, aligning it in the center, pin the side walls with 2 cm carnations (boards 6.5x56 cm). Before nailing, the lower edges of the planks can be greased with glue for a secure grip. Do not nail the nails closer than 1 inch (2.5 cm) to the edge of the planks. For convenience, you can use a clamp to fasten the connecting parts of the tray.

    Attach to the tray and line up the two pieces with the handle holes. Apply glue to the bottom edges of the parts. With or without a clamp, pin the pieces to the bottom of the tray.

    To make the sides of the bottom of the breakfast tray look their best, you can glue the veneer on them. If the veneer is glued on the back, it will most likely stick with a hot iron. If without one, then you will need to glue it with PVA or universal glue.

    Using massive scissors or a segment knife, cut off the required four strips of veneer (veneer). Leave a small margin, which you will cut off after gluing. Begin gluing the veneer to the long sides of the bottom of the tray. Cut off the protruding ends. Stick on the rest of the sides, cut off the excess. Sand the corners (lining joints) with sandpaper.

    DIY wood tray painting

    Go to this stage after the glue has completely dried. Thoroughly sand the bumps on the tray, remove any protruding elements. Try again to grasp the tray by the handles and check to see if the sharp edges of the handles are pressing against your hands. If so, then sandpaper a few millimeters off the sharp edges.

    Wipe the dust off the tray with a rag and start applying the stain. If you don't want to change the color of the wood, go straight to varnishing the tray. After the stain is dry, apply another coat if necessary. After all layers have dried, cover the tray with a protective agent. This role is most often played by various kinds of varnishes, but there can also be wax-based impregnations.

    Note: When choosing a protective product, if you do not want a strong, pungent smell to appear in your home, do not buy products based on oil and polyurethane, but varnishes are water based do not have a strong odor and dry quickly - you can check if the varnish is dry by lightly touching the tray with your hand.

    We can easily afford breakfast in bed or a cup of coffee on the veranda if we create an elegant wooden tray with our own hands. A wooden tray is an indispensable item in the household, you can make if you have the necessary tools for work and wood materials... This type of tray is convenient, practical and aesthetic, it will come in handy everywhere: in an apartment, in a country house or in country house... You will need some plywood, a cork backing, and a few tips from the workshop.

    To work you will need:

    • wood plywood 5 mm thick;
    • wooden board 2 cm thick;
    • square for measuring and marking;
    • power saw or bow saw - a sharp saw with guides for bevel cuts;
    • end plane;
    • vice;
    • drill;
    • pencil;
    • grinding machine;
    • dispersion glue for wood;
    • hammer;
    • small nails;
    • water-based matte paint;
    • brush.

    Let's get to work, having prepared the above materials. Wooden plywood with a thickness of 5 mm, we cut into a rectangle 35 by 50 cm. Wooden plank cut into 4 parts: 2 sides and 2 handles of the corresponding sizes. On a board 31 by 7 cm, we draw a future pen using a ruler.

    Using a drill and a round nozzle, we drill holes with a diameter of 2.5 cm, take a jigsaw to cut a hole and bevels on the upper side of the tray handle.

    We apply the finished pen to the board and outline it with a pencil, this is necessary so that the second pen is the same size and shape. The size of the sidewalls: 50 by 4 cm.

    Finished parts must be sanded with fine sandpaper. We glue the parts of the tray with dispersion glue for wood.

    We grip with a vice, remove excess glue with a dry cloth. Cut out the bottom and the rest of the details from the cork backing.

    We knock off the bottom with the sides with small carnations. Glue the cork backing with the same dispersion adhesive.

    We put the tray under the press, it can be plastic bottles or a bucket filled with water. The final stage of the work is to cover the tray with matte water-based paint in two layers.

    • jigsaw;
    • electric drill;
    • drill with a diameter of 2.5 cm.;
    • a hacksaw with a fine pitch of teeth;
    • hammer (where can we go without it?);
    • roulette;
    • massive scissors;
    • simple pencil;
    • paint brush;
    • a pair of rubber gloves and newspaper.

    For a high-quality and reliable product, it is best to take a hard wood. Ideally red will do oak. Approximate thickness is 2.5 centimeters. In this case, you will need:

    • a pair of boards 9x32 cm;
    • a pair of boards 6.5x56 cm;
    • one board 32x61 cm.

    Choose a varnish depending on the drying area. If the products are to be dried on outdoors- you can take an oil-based varnish. Otherwise, opt for a water-soluble varnish.

    Manufacturing instruction

    Initially, you need to make marks for future pens. There is nothing complicated here, just rely on the drawing.

    Determine the middle on the board (9x32 cm), then step back left and right by 5 centimeters. There you need to drill holes. In our case, drills with a diameter of 2.5 cm play a very important role, since all this will affect the dimensions in the end. Drill only at right angles, avoiding uneven holes.

    After you have drilled the holes, you need to draw them together with a simple pencil. Then walk along these lines with a jigsaw, thus forming the handles. Be sure to sand them down as they should be smooth.

    Now that all the parts are ready, you can start connecting them. To do this, use 2cm nails, glue, and a hammer. After assembly, you also need to process everything with sandpaper, getting rid of irregularities and roughness.

    Only after that we start painting - this is the simplest thing left for you to do. Prepare the surface, varnish it and let dry. That's it, you became the owner of a wooden tray with your own hands!

The sides can be carved from plywood, wood or plastic, the countertops themselves - from glass or plywood. Do-it-yourself breakfast table should start with the simplest drawing. He or a diagram should contain the main dimensions of all parts. The main one is the countertop. She must be small size... It is enough that a couple of cups of coffee or other drinks and a few sandwiches are placed on it. After breakfast, it is quite possible to place a laptop, several magazines or a notebook with a pen on the device.

    The height of the legs is very important. Each must have such dimensions that the assembled table does not interfere with human movements. The approach here should be strictly individual for a particular case. Small but comfortable handles also need to be made. They can be simply cut into the worktop or in the sides. You can also use handles that are installed on pieces of furniture.

    The height of a self-made structure can be 260 mm, the length of the table top is 620 mm and the width is 420 mm. Its recommended thickness is 16-20 mm. The sides are made from billets in the form of blocks with dimensions of 25x10 mm. Wider bars can also be used. You need to assemble your table with wood glue using nails. At the time of gluing, it is required to fix the parts with clamps.

A hole is drilled at the other end for the axle. Its center should be 25 mm from the edges of the workpiece. With a compass, you need to draw a circle with a center in the middle of the hole and cut the workpiece with a jigsaw. Each leg is connected with jumpers from the same material for strength. The product is varnished or decorated in any well-known style. Images made using decoupage technique, gilded legs, carved tabletop will look great.
