Its flowering period begins in May and lasts more than 1.5 months. The plant blooms again in the fall.

Growing obriety

Aubrieta grows best and blooms best in sunny locations in moderately hot climates. It is better to choose a soil for planting light, neutral or slightly alkaline calcareous, not very fertile. In no case is it recommended to grow Aubrieta on clay, sour or fatty peat soils... Excessive moisture harms the plant, especially in winter, contributing to decay of the root part, therefore the best place for planting - rocky slides, hills or areas with good drainage.

Mandatory regular watering is recommended only in southern latitudes. Watering too often can cause overgrowth of green foliage and poor flowering. With insufficient moisture intake, the plant also loses its decorative effect, but after the resumption of watering, it comes to life again. In temperate climates, only young plants can be watered during their active growth.

Aubriet cultivation and reproduction during one season it is recommended to mulch the soil near the plants two to three times. A layer of sand 3-5 cm thick is poured under the roots of the bushes, which has a very positive effect on the growth and condition of the plant. In the spring and autumn periods, it is recommended to feed the plant with a complete mineral fertilizer. After the first spring flowering, the stems of the aubriet must be cut almost to the root to prevent its growth and stimulate the growth of young herbaceous shoots.

After pruning, the plant will bloom again in the fall, although not so abundantly. The stems that have grown after pruning, covered with dense decorative foliage, will create an excellent backdrop for other rock garden plants that bloom later. To preserve decorativenesswilted branches and peduncles should be removed in time.

Reproduction of obriety

The easiest way to grow new plants is from cuttings. Cuttings are taken from cut branches without flowers. The rooting process should take place in greenhouse conditions, in peat-sandy soil. Cuttings can be transplanted to a permanent open place at the end of summer. In this case, before the onset of cold weather, they will have enough time to settle down and gain strength for a successful wintering. The recommended distance between planted cuttings is up to 15 cm. If you are still afraid that young plants will not be able to successfully overwinter, especially if they are taken from a very valuable variety, you can leave them in a greenhouse until spring. With each passing year, mature plants are losing their resistance and becoming more and more vulnerable to environmental conditions. Therefore, it is advisable to annually carry out cuttings of all varieties in order to avoid their loss.

Another good way to grow obriety is from seeds. They are sown in beds in a permanent place in September or May and mulched with a sand mixture. If you sow seeds out of the blue, not limited by a ridge, then tender seedlings can easily get lost in the weeds. Flowering with this planting begins in the second year of plant growth.

It is highly discouraged to divide the Aubrieta bushes for its reproduction - the plant tolerates this procedure very poorly. If the need for an emergency transplant nevertheless arises, it is worth treating it with all caution.

Aubrieta is quite capricious, she requires constant care and attention, otherwise it is very easy to lose her. Of the diseases, Aubrietu is most often affected by powdery mildew, which covers with a bloom and deforms its stems and leaves. You can get rid of the fungus by treating the bushes with a solution of colloidal sulfur. Too damaged bushes will have to be removed.
