• What can be cooked from squid: quick and tasty

    With the onset of heat, we recall fans, the simplest and most affordable human inventions for air freshening. The classic design of the fan consists of an engine, on the shaft of which an impeller with many blades is fixed. During operation of the fan, air is sucked in from the rear side, and passing through the blades at an increased speed is pushed forward, creating the effect of cooling and freshness.
    A conventional fan has a number of disadvantages: noise and vibration from the blades, which collect dust and air pollution. In order to clean them, it is necessary to remove the protective grill. The speed of such fans is regulated in only a few modes, and it is quite difficult to adjust the airflow angle.
    Our proposed alternative device is free from these disadvantages. This development was invented by Dyson engineers, presenting an almost revolutionary solution in the field of air ventilation. Thanks to them, the world has learned what a bladeless fan is. And today we will collect it at home.

    The principle of operation of the bladeless fan

    The main difference between a bladeless fan and a conventional fan is the changed direction of the expelled air flow. This is achieved due to the fact that the engine with the impeller is placed vertically and hidden in the base, which is equipped with gratings. Through them, air flows pass into a frame located above the base and provided with slots along the perimeter for ventilation.

    Materials, tools for a bladeless fan

    To assemble this ultra-modern household gadget, we need the following materials:
    • Sections of PVC pipes with a diameter of 150, 125, 90 mm;
    • Fast drying glue for plastics, such as super glue;
    • A small piece of plexiglass or plexiglass of blue color;
    • Server cooler YW880, frame width -60mm;
    • Aerosol paint white, 1 can;
    • A piece of soft metal mesh with cells of about 10 mm;
    • Rheostat speed control board, toggle switch;
    • Solder, flux, thermocambric, self-tapping screws;
    • A piece of LED strip, length - about 50 cm;
    • Power supply (adapter) for 12V / 2 A;
    • Insulating tape.
    From the tools we need:
    • Miter saw or angle grinder (angle grinder) for cutting PVC pipes;
    • Jigsaw for cutting curved lines;
    • Drill or screwdriver with a 50-60 mm bit-bit;
    • A set of drills of various diameters;
    • Soldering iron, screwdriver, scissors, pliers, hot glue gun;
    • Painting knife.

    The order of work

    Cooking plastic pipes

    We take a segment PVC pipes with a diameter of 150mm and butt it, leveling the edges. We mark a fragment with a length of about 100 mm, and make a cut with a miter saw or grinder (angle grinder).

    The edges of all pipes must be processed sandpaper to avoid burrs, unevenness and improve the adhesion of the edges for the adhesive bond.

    The next step is to select a plastic container that will fit tightly onto our pipe segment. Using a painting knife, we cut off the bottom of it, and with the help of superglue we fix it on the top of the pipe.

    Then we take a pipe with a diameter of 125mm, and cut off a 90mm long pipe from it.

    The next one will be a pipe with a diameter of 90mm, which we also cut, like the previous two. This is the base of our fan. Cut length - 120-130mm.

    Basic plastic parts ready. You can check how they will be combined with each other by placing them in their places.

    The fan frame sits on the base perpendicularly, therefore the 90mm branch pipe must be slightly prepared by cutting off its edge according to the frame circumference. We mark it with a pencil, you can cut it with a jigsaw or the same grinder.

    Irregularities of a curved cut can be smoothed out with sandpaper, at the same time removing burrs.

    Using a hole cutter with a diameter of 50-60 mm, with a drill or screwdriver, we make a through hole in the middle of the largest pipe. It will allow air to flow through the base into our frame. We fix our base on superglue.

    In order to close the fan frame, consisting of two pipe sections of different diameters, a plug is glued on the smaller of them from one end. We make it from a sheet of plexiglass or blue plexiglass.

    Having marked first a large circle, and then a smaller one, we cut off the cap ring.

    It can now be placed on superglue to the smaller frame tube.

    Using spray paint white and electrical tape as masking tape for plexiglass, paint over the plastic parts of our fan.

    After the paint has dried, you can glue a piece of LED strip onto the larger pipe on the side of the plug. Do not forget to immediately solder the contacts for LED backlight, and bring them to the base.

    We fix both pipes of our frame with superglue.

    Electrical part

    We begin to prepare the electrical filling of our fan by unsoldering the contacts of the cooler. It is better to take the wires with a margin so that it is convenient to work with them when connecting the control board and the toggle switch.

    A soldering iron can be used to make mounting holes to securely fix the cooler to the base case.

    We fix the cooler and drill two ventilation holes in the base opposite each other. This can be done with the same crown cutter.

    We close these holes with fragments of a metal mesh, previously cut to size.

    We glue the mesh fragments with a hot glue gun.

    We solder the contacts of the toggle switch and the power socket. We close the bare contacts with heat-shrinkable cambric, warming them up with a lighter.

    Now you can punch holes for the toggle switch and power jack and attach them to the fan base case.

    Recently, advertisements for a safe, bladeless fan have periodically appeared in Runet, we propose to consider the device of this climatic device for the home and the principle of its operation. We will also talk about the strengths and weaknesses of this device and the main characteristics. Then we will carry out short review several models of bladeless fans, and at the end of the article we will consider the possibility of creating such an unusual device with our own hands.

    Design and principle of operation

    In 2009, J. Dyson presented his own fan design to the world. The design feature was the absence of blades, which, nevertheless, did not prevent the device from creating a steady air flow. Moreover, the volume of air at the outlet exceeded by one or two orders of magnitude entering the turbine. Think magic? No, everything is much more serious - aerodynamics.

    It's all about the profile of the ring, it has been given a special shape.

    Due to this, the air escaping from the holes is focused so that a zone is formed in front of the ring low pressure(highlighted in a red oval in Fig. 3).

    Rice. 3. Aerodynamic modeling of the Dyson Air Multiplier operation

    Since such an area is surrounded in front and on the sides by increased pressure, air is drawn in from the back of the ring, creating a steady directional flow.

    Note that it took Dyson about four years to compile a mathematical model of the profile, which allows to achieve the maximum effect and refine the technology. Most of the Chinese counterparts of his device cannot produce even half the power of the original device. The inventor has patented the design, in particular, the profile of the ring and the structure of the turbine that blows air, therefore, in order to make full-fledged copies, it is necessary to acquire the production rights from the author.

    How does a fan work?

    Since the drawing of the device is protected by copyright, we will tell you about the operation of the fan, based on the illustrations used in the advertisement of this product.

    Explanation of the figure:

    • A - holes for air intake to the turbine.
    • B - turbine engine.
    • C - air flows inside the ring.
    • D - ring.

    When turned on, the turbine begins to pump air into the ring, from where it exits under pressure into a small slot (A in Fig. 5) or small nozzles.

    Rice. 5. A - Slot for air outlet; B - motor for rotating the ring

    Some models (for example, Flextron FB1009, KITFORT KT-401, HJ-007, Bork) have a built-in motor (B Fig. 5) that allows you to change the direction of the ring, and, consequently, the air flow. Some manufacturers have provided for the possibility of installing a special aerosol in the design, as a result of the Аirmultiplier Dyson (this is how Dyson called his brainchild) additionally acts as an air freshener (part lineup Kitfort, Supra, Renova, Vesson).

    There are bladeless fans with cooling and heating of air, such household appliances can well be classified as a full-fledged climatic technology.

    Original devices are produced with a power plant (turbine) with a power of 25 or 40 watts. For Chinese counterparts, this parameter can vary over a wide range. Such a small power is quite enough for up to 500 liters of air per second to pass through the ring (again, this value applies to original products).

    Advantages and disadvantages

    Having considered the structure of air multipliers, one can proceed to the analysis of their advantages and disadvantages. Let's start with the first one. Advantages:

    Unfortunately, this device also has disadvantages that significantly affect consumer demand:

    1. High price original models, it can go up to 20 thousand rubles or more, which is comparable to the purchase and installation of an inexpensive split system. However, you can put up with such a price if the bladeless fan has the functions of heating and cooling the air. Note that Chinese counterparts are significantly cheaper, some even by an order of magnitude, but, as already described above, they have less efficiency.
    2. Despite the fact that the fan's power plant is low-noise, during operation this device emits a characteristic hum, reminiscent of the operation of an aircraft turbine. Moreover, at maximum power, the noise level can reach 60 decibels, which is quite a lot, since an hour is enough for a headache from this. True, in this mode, the device creates such a strong air flow that uncomfortable sensations arise, so the maximum level of work is practically not used. In the normal mode, the device makes much less noise.
    3. The 15-fold increase in traffic declared in the advertisement is technically correct, but there is a certain nuance. This value is typical for the maximum mode, which is practically not used.

    Overview of models on the market

    Let's take as an example several models of devices available on the Russian market.

    Bladeless Fan, a small, inexpensive bladeless type desktop fan. Made in China. The cost is about $ 40- $ 50. A minimum of functions, low power (12 W) allows you to get an air flow that is quite acceptable for desktop devices.

    Another budget option with a minimal functional set is Fan Leader, according to the suppliers, made in Poland. Also in a desktop version, in the same price range, but with a slightly higher power - 35 watts. Salient feature- the working area is made in the form of an oval. Note that this shape is found in many models, for example, Orion OR-DSO2.

    Well, for comparison, consider original design- Dayson Hot + Cool model. This appliance is available in floor-standing design. It has the function of heating the air. Turbine power - 40 W, in heater mode - 2 kW. There is a remote control, an information board indicating the selected mode and the set temperature. For all this pleasure, you will need to pay about $ 500 - 540.

    Finishing the topic of the review, we present a comparative table of the Dynson lineup and the Chinese analogue of the Unico ION.

    Is it possible to make a bladeless fan with your own hands?

    In runet there are several videos dedicated to this topic, where to create a ring are used various materials from plastic buckets to sewer pipes PVC. Power plants are also diverse, mostly powerful coolers from processors, but there are originals using a vacuum cleaner motor. The effectiveness of such structures and their characteristics are highly questionable, especially since no measurements are given.

    Remember, to create a low pressure zone, you need to focus the air flows in a special way. Using the usual material at hand is quite difficult to do, and work for the sake of work does not make rational sense.

    No matter how hard the manufacturers of fans try, so far their inventions can hardly be called completely safe. Perhaps Dyson managed to do this by creating their own, so-called "air multiplier" without rotating blades.

    The system of this fan is as follows: its stand literally sucks in air from the outside, accelerates it in a circle equipped with injector holes, amplifying it 15 times, and releases it in a continuous soft stream through an annular hole, without a rotor or blades. According to the company, the fan is capable of releasing up to 0.45 cubic meters of air per minute.

    It is almost completely silent, and the absence of blades makes it both safe (you can safely put your hands in the ring) and convenient for washing. In addition, like any fan, it can rotate 90 degrees around its axis - just one press of a button is needed. It is just as easy to adjust the angle of air blowing and its speed.

    The fan is very stable and is made of durable thermoplastic, so the case is not easily damaged. There are several colors and sizes. The price is about $ 300.

    Per last years a large number of new products appeared household appliances... Consumers are offered a varied assortment of modern products and often updated designs. The most popular is a bladeless fan that operates in an economical mode and is able to effectively refresh the room.

      Show all

      History of creation

      The bladeless fan looks very different from the product we are used to. The first device appeared in 2009... thanks to creator James Dyson. He devoted almost 30 years to work aimed at improving many types of household appliances. The English developer managed to come up with many unusual, useful and necessary inventions.

      Many countries have bought a patent for the production of these new products. Manufacturers are attracted not only by the usefulness of the devices, but also by the improved design, functionality technology. When developing a special fan without blades, more than 4 years were spent on modeling a ring capable of effectively passing air flows, multiplying it many times over.

      COOL LEAF FAN FROM CHINA !!!

      The device quickly gained popularity and similar fans were on the market shortly after its introduction. Now there are even more budget options from Chinese manufacturers.

      Fan device

      The operation of this device is very similar to the operation of a jet aircraft engine. A high-speed turbine with a 40 kW engine is mounted in its base, which are connected by a common shaft. Only two main parts (base, ring diffuser) are included in the bladeless fan. The principle of operation is based on the operation of a turbine, which ensures the flow of air into the device.

      The engine of the device is equipped with a Heimholtz chamber, which captures and dissipates the noise of the work. The body of the device has many openings for air intake. The annular diffuser of the device is designed according to the rules of aerodynamics. There is a special slot on the inner side of the surface. With its help, air is injected in the working area.

      The section of the ring has the form of a drop, since this shape is ideal from the point of view of aerodynamics. It minimizes the resistance around itself, which prevents the formation of turbulence.

      Bladeless fan

      Principle of operation

      The bladeless fan has been applied technical principle turbine operation. Located in the base of the device, the turbine sucks in air from the outside through the openings of the housing and feeds it into an annular diffuser with a very narrow slot. Its specially adapted profile works to increase the efficiency of the differential pressure. This causes the air to be pushed out with force due to the aerodynamic effect.

      The air that surrounds the diffuser ring is immediately poured into the resulting stream. Due to this, the air working flow increases 15–20 times for a fan without blades. The principle of operation of such a device is called an "air multiplier". This resulted in a safe and economical design.

      It creates a dense, monotonous stream that refreshes the air masses. In the course of action, it functions impersonally. The device is practically silent; it is very interesting to observe how the fan works without blades. Unlike a conventional device, it does not create a draft and does not cause discomfort.

      Main advantages

      The bladeless unit has many advantages over a conventional fan. It is ideal for home and office use. The devices have the following positive characteristics:

      All these devices are equipped with remote control, which makes them very easy to use. The control panels are fixed to the body so that it is convenient to operate and not to be lost. Almost all remotes are equipped with various options, where you can select the desired operating mode. Such a product helps to get a fresh air stream in everyday life and at work without noise and discomfort.

      In addition to the advantages, the fan has its disadvantages: if you buy a more powerful device, it makes noise during operation, which is very noticeable at high speed. Price at modern models high. If you buy cheaper counterparts from Chinese manufacturers, then they are unstable and creaky.

      Bladeless fan manufacturers are constantly working on the existing drawbacks. They periodically improve new models, taking into account the feedback and suggestions of consumers.

      Criterias of choice

      "Air multiplier" is distinguished not only by its positive characteristics, but also original design... With its bizarre shape, it will decorate any room. According to the method of installation, they are divided into three types:

      • floor;
      • wall-mounted;
      • tabletop.

      Wall-mounted devices belong to stationary type devices, and the other two to portable devices. Most often, manufacturers of such equipment provide for the installation of fans in two mounting options: on the wall and on the table. They are supplied with a bracket with dowels.

      Consumers are now offered many models that differ in price and functionality. Before buying, you should pay attention to the characteristics of the device and its noise level during operation.

      How to make a DIY safe fan

      The operating efficiency is influenced by the radius of the bladeless fan ring. For larger rooms, choose models with a larger ring. The amount of flow and power consumption will depend on the power of the "air multiplier". For an apartment or house of a small area, it is enough to buy a medium-power device. If you choose it for a large office, then you should buy a unit that can drive a large volume of air.

      It is recommended to pay attention to the body of the product so that it is of high quality and does not have an unpleasant odor. For connoisseurs of comfort, it is advisable to give preference to models with a wide setting of adjustment parameters. The presence of a control panel with a convenient system of buttons will allow you to easily and simply operate a household appliance.

      Application features

      "Air multipliers" are now quite common. They are installed in homes and apartments, offices, hospitals and other institutions. They gently distribute air currents, but, in addition, they are capable of humidifying, cooling or heating the air. The range of setting the humidity level will depend on the model, so each user has the opportunity to choose for himself suitable option products.

      Only equipped with heating and cooling expensive models... Options with air purification from fumes, smoke and other harmful impurities are offered. Now you can buy products from global brands that will act as real air conditioners.

    In this tutorial we will make a bladeless fan using PVC tubing, Plastic container and a fiberglass sheet.

    For this project, special thanks to the guys from the DYI King Youtube channel, who were inspired to create a safe fan. But the best part about this bladeless fan is that, unlike most homemade fans, the project does not require the use of 3D printing, and the final cost can be less than $ 10.

    Below in the video you can see the whole process of creating a fan.

    Step 1. Tools and materials

    The tools and materials required for this project are very easy to assemble and are all in the photo above. Essential for this project is a 6.5 '' and 3.5 '' set of PVC pipes, a plastic container or bowl, and a 3mm thick fiberglass sheet.

    There is no need for a 3D printer as is used in most DIY fan projects. Moreover, we used a miter saw to make most of the cuts as it made the job more precise and easier when the same job can be done with hand saw and some patience, but then expensive tools will be needed to make a neat bladeless fan.

    Step 2. Working principle

    Unlike the name of the device, which is a fan without blades, this thing actually has a fairly high-speed blade inside the main body. You can see the principle of operation of such a fan in the picture above.

    In addition, the fan without blades provides closed control of the blades, and then the air flow is directed through the closed channel body, repeating the structure conventional case fan with no blades. This design offers an excellent level of protection for children.

    Step 3. Making the main body

    First you need to make the main body and for this you can use a PVC pipe. The main outlet is made of 6 "diameter PVC pipe that is 4" wide to form an outer casing of the air outlet.

    To form an air pocket inside the main air outlet, we use a tapered bowl that fits perfectly with a 6-inch PVC pipe, and its collar sits on the edges of the pipe - see photo above. Cut the bowl 1 inch above its bottom so that it forms a nice tapered collar inside the main outlet shroud that allows air to rotate evenly within the outlet cavity before leaving it.

    Step 4. Inner casing and base

    The inner air outlet clamp is made of 5 ”PVC pipe. This tube forms a narrow opening, almost 0.5 inches wide, to distribute air evenly from the cavity / air outlet. Three parts, namely an outer 6 "PVC pipe, a tapered inner body made of a plastic bowl, and an inner clamp made of 5" PVC pipe, together form an air outlet body.

    To form the base, use 3.5 "PVC pipe, cut to 5". To make the base ideally fit the body of the air outlet, cut one end of the base pipe in a curved shape (cut the bend along the pre-glued electrical tape), and denote the outline with a 6-inch PVC pipe. The pipe is then cut with a jigsaw and then sanded with sandpaper to fit perfectly with the outer 6 '' pipe without any gaps in between.

    Step 5. Air intake

    Before gluing the base to the main body, drill a 3 "hole in the 6" PVC pipe, which will be the passage for air to enter the main body and then into the outlet. The hole is made with a hole saw.

    Then the base is glued to the outside of the air outlet with super glue. Since the base pipe is perfectly shaped to sit on a 6-inch PVC pipe, superglue makes a very strong connection between the two pieces.

    Step 6. Air outlet ring

    The air outlet ring is made of 3 mm thick fiberglass sheet, which serves as the connection between the inner half and the outer half of the main air outlet. The ring is made using a jigsaw.

    Step 7. Drawing

    Since most of the bladeless fan casing parts are ready, they need to be painted to keep them neat and flawless. Paint everything white using spray paint, except for the fiberglass ring, which is protected from paint with electrical tape.

    The end result is very good and the blue fiberglass sheet looks fantastic against a flawless white background.

    Step 8. LED strip

    To make the design more attractive and elegant, add a 12V LED strip on the inside of the air outlet at the end where the fiberglass sheet will be glued to the inner air outlet bushing. The light strip is cut to the required length. The tape has a sticky side and attaches by removing the protective cover from the back of the tape and then adheres to the PVC body.

    When the fan turns on, LED Strip Light illuminates the back of the air outlet and thus produces a very cool visual effect by diffusing blue light.

    Step 9. Bonding all parts

    Once the paint is dry, glue all the pieces together to form the main body of our bladeless fan using super glue that seems to hold everything tight.

    Step 10. Installing the fan

    Behind each bladeless fan is a fan with blades. So, to power our fan, you need to use a high-speed 12V DC fan, which you can take from your old computer. More specifically, in this tutorial, a server fan is much more powerful than a regular PC fan. Therefore, we strongly recommend using this type of fan.

    The fan is mounted inside the base just below the air outlet housing with four wood screws to hold the fan securely in place. The fan is set to push air upwards, and thus we need the fan to be stable enough.

    Step 11. Air intake

    A pair of air intakes are made just below the server fan on both sides of the base pipe, i.e. base pipes. These inlets allow air to be drawn into the interior of the base.

    To prevent someone accidentally injuring their fingers by inserting them into the fan base, glue a metal mesh on both holes. The mesh is first painted matt black and then glued inside the base using hot glue.
