    A warm garage is the safety of the car. But a garage cannot be warm without an insulated roof - it is through this large area that up to 30% of all heat goes away, since warm air currents always rush upward. First of all, you need to take care of how to insulate the garage roof from the inside if you use your car all year round, otherwise, after a while, condensation accumulating on the ceiling will regularly drip onto the car body, accelerating its corrosion. In addition, other items will suffer from high humidity - tools, spare parts, household items, if they are stored in the garage.

    Requirements for thermal insulation materials

    But how to insulate the roof of the garage in order to surely avoid the appearance of condensation? The garage is a specific structure, and standard thermal insulation technologies may not work here, since the main enemy metal body car - not a low temperature, but high humidity corrosive. Humidity is a consequence of the occurrence of condensation, which will necessarily appear if the difference between the outside and inside temperatures is large. This means that it is necessary to create a thermal layer - a protection that would neutralize this terminator strip and serve as a transition layer.

    There is only one way to deal with waterlogged air - to dry it. And, if there is no heating in the garage (as often happens), then the room should simply be effectively insulated. The requirements for garage heaters are as follows:

    1. Any insulation of the garage roof from the inside or from the inside must be non-flammable or protected from fire;
    2. Garage insulation should be chemically and biologically passive, such as oils, gasoline, diesel fuel, antifreeze, etc. Are toxins that destroy most thermal insulation coatings. And if the insulation is damaged by rodents or pests, then it will not be able to serve for a long time;
    3. Internal or external insulation should be dense enough so that moisture does not accumulate in it;
    4. A low weight of insulation is one of the main requirements - a large mass should not press on the garage roof, deforming it and increasing the load on the foundation;
    5. The service life of the insulating coating should be equal to the service life of the entire garage.

    Important: the insulation of the garage roof outside and inside must also be suitable for performing all other insulation functions - the layer of material must work all-season, maintaining optimal humidity and temperature in the room.

    To make high-quality insulation of the garage roof, use the following materials:

    Fiberglass is the result of glass waste recycling: broken or defective glass, after high temperature processing, is pulled into threads, cut to size and cools. Fiberglass is produced in slabs and mats. The properties of this warmth insulating material the same as for glass - does not interact with aggressive substances, does not burn or rot when moistened, does not absorb water. Thermal conductivity of glass fiber - 0.036 W / m K.

    Among the disadvantages, high fragility is noted - it is not recommended to expose the material to strong mechanical stress, since the fiber breaks, reducing the thermal conductivity of the material. It is necessary to work with fiberglass only with the use of satellites - gloves, glasses, a respirator, thick clothing. When buying this insulation, make sure that the packaging is not damaged - the ingress of moisture on the destroyed structure of the product reduces its performance.

    Mineral fiber insulation looks similar to the previous material, but is made from basalt rocks by melting. The plasticity, elasticity and flexibility of the material increases its mechanical strength, the thermal conductivity coefficient is 0.045-0.055 W / m K, which allows the material to be used as a sound-absorbing coating.

    Polymer heat insulators are produced in plates of different sizes. Such a synthetic insulation will perfectly work in a metal shell garage, since, having a low weight and low thermal conductivity (0.02-0.05 W / m K) at a high density, it well protects metal surfaces from moisture. High moisture resistance makes it possible not to create additional protective layers in the form of vapor barrier films, as required by working with mineral insulation, but protection from the sun is a must, since polymers are quickly destroyed by direct exposure to ultraviolet radiation and high temperatures. And, if fire protection can be increased by additives, fire retardants, then from sun rays only direct mechanical protection will save.

    Many car owners have an idea of how to insulate the roof in a garage with natural insulation, since natural materials- this is cotton wool, felt, felt, refractory cotton fabric. The advantages of such materials are durability and non-toxicity, but from high temperature and humidity they should be covered under a layer of steam or waterproofing.

    Features of the choice of insulation for the roof of the garage

    When developing a scheme for insulating a garage roof, the following aspects should be taken into account:

    1. The presence of a natural and (preferably) forced ventilation system - toxic fumes and exhaust gases must be removed from the garage in a timely manner. In addition, constant ventilation is used to achieve rapid removal of moisture;
    2. It is extremely undesirable to use flammable insulation materials, whether it is necessary to cover them behind a layer of non-combustible, but "breathing" materials - plaster, ceramic unglazed tiles;
    3. The moisture absorption coefficient of the insulation used in the garage should be minimal. If this indicator is high, then you can protect yourself from moisture with steam or waterproofing.

    It is better to insulate the roof during the construction of the building itself - this way you can save not only on materials, but also on labor costs. Step by step roof insulation looks like this:

    1. Laying a vapor barrier layer so that external or internal moisture does not get inside the insulation layer, and water vapor can be discharged outside;
    2. Installation of a layer of heat-insulating material. Soft insulation is attached to a metal frame, hard insulation - directly to the roof, liquid - also to a pre-assembled frame;
    3. Sealed installation of a waterproofing film in the form of a film;
    4. Laying of non-combustible roofing materials - slate, metal tiles, corrugated board.

    Expanded polystyrene (PPS), polystyrene or polystyrene foam is attached to plastic dowels with umbrella-shaped caps, the joints of the EPS sheets are poured polyurethane foam or glued. When choosing such a heat-insulating material, sheets with a thickness of 20 to 100 mm should be used, the density of expanded polystyrene should be at least 25 kg / cm 2. When laying the foam, the sheets are stacked, observing the alignment of the chamfers at the ends, the density of the insulation is chosen at least 35-45 kg / cm 2.

    Polyfoam and polystyrene foam can not be attached to dowels, since the sheets of this material weigh a little - they are simply glued to the glue, and it is desirable (but not necessary) to plaster or putty the open surface of the sheets. they may not be covered with anything or they may be putty and plastered. Liquid polymer insulation is applied by spraying, therefore, no vapor or waterproofing is required.

    Soft insulation will not adhere firmly to a vertical or sloped roof surface without creating a metal or wood frame. It is better not to use wood, since the slats or timber will have to be additionally impregnated with antiseptics and fire retardants. Fasten fiberglass or mineral wool in series:

    1. On rafter legs the vapor barrier is attached with staples (stapler), the joints are sealed with tape;
    2. Thermal insulation with a thickness of< 150 мм;
    3. The entire layer of insulation is sewn up with sheet materials - OSB, chipboard or fiberboard.

    Natural thermal insulation in the garage is used quite rarely, since, although these are traditional materials, they are more expensive than synthetic ones. In addition, felt or cotton tend to shrink over time, which will worsen the thermal insulation parameters of the insulation. Bulk or loose insulation - expanded clay or ecowool - behave much more predictably. Expanded clay is poured onto the inner surface pitched roof in one layer, which, nevertheless, requires vapor barrier and waterproofing with foil or film.

    Internal insulation

    Insulation of the ceiling or roof of the garage from the inside is carried out after the construction of the garage itself, and this process involves the installation of three layers of thermal insulation. For example, with reinforced concrete ceiling slabs, it is easier and faster to attach thermal insulation made of expanded polystyrene directly to the slab, and not create an additional frame.

    Before installing the sheets, the floor surface is cleaned of debris and leveled with a solution if there are depressions or cracks. The sheets are cut with a knife to the desired size, and attached to the concrete with umbrella dowels. For a tighter fit, you can apply a layer of adhesive mortar. The gaps between the sheets are filled with polyurethane foam or plastered.

    With protruding beam logs (if the garage is wide and one slab does not cover it), they are first sewn up with sheet or slab insulation, and the rest of the space is insulated with fibrous materials.

    For mounting mineral wool make the frame - from wooden slats or UD / SD profiles. Mineral wool is tightly packed into the interframe space, after which the entire surface is covered with a vapor barrier film or foil-clad waterproofing. The edges of the roll are connected between themselves with tape.

    Penoizol is a liquid insulation, the work with which consists in spraying it with a spray gun on any surface. Penetrating into the most inaccessible places and filling all cracks and difficult spaces, a layer of liquid insulation in finishing option becomes smooth and seamless. Its surface does not need to be protected with steam or waterproofing films, since penoizol is not afraid of moisture and does not absorb it at all. The service life of such a layer is several decades.

    When installing polymer heat insulators, it is not necessary to create steam and water barriers, but for greater confidence, you can sheathe the insulated surface with a waterproofing film.

    At the end of all work with roof insulation, it is also recommended to insulate the gate leaves and walls so as not to expose the garage roof to an unnecessary risk of waterlogging. All insulated surfaces, if desired, can be closed with decorative materials - siding, corrugated board, plastic or clapboard.

    Insulation of a pitched roof

    The rafter system of the garage roof is closed from the inside with a vapor barrier film - on the staples using a construction stapler, the joints of adjacent canvases are glued with tape. The outer surface of the rafter system is insulated with mineral wool or glass wool with a thickness of ≥ 150 mm. If the distance between the rafters is greater than the width of the insulation, then stoppers are made of boards along the width of the mineral wool roll.

    Full-fledged and high-quality insulation is impossible without insulation of the cornice, therefore, a roll of insulation, unfolded and cut in width, is attached to the cornice with a stapler and covered with a board cut to size. Before fixing the decorative board, steam or waterproofing is attached to the insulation.

    Since all work on the insulation of the garage roof is carried out at a height, you must adhere to the safety rules:

    1. When working with any insulation, it is necessary to choose and use appropriate personal protective equipment;
    2. Glue solution and liquid insulation must be in a closed container before use. The same applies to glass wool, the microparticles of which, if inhaled, can cause irreparable harm to the human respiratory system.

    In most cases, a garage is a flat-roofed metal box or a concrete block structure that slopes, slate roof... Such garages are characterized by low cost and the same comfort conditions. In order to create a normal microclimate in this room, save on heating it, if it is planned to install a boiler or stove there, thermal insulation of the enclosing structures and floors is carried out. How to insulate the ceiling in the garage? What materials are used in this case?

    The feasibility of insulating the garage

    Finishing with natural clapboard over insulation.

    On the other hand, the constancy of the indoor climate in the garage preserves the details of the car. Sudden changes in temperature lead to the formation of condensation on the metal structural elements of the car. The latter begin to corrode. Insulation of the garage roof from the inside or outside will allow you to maintain a constant temperature regime... As a result, condensation does not fall out, the machine parts remain intact.

    We insulate the garage with our own hands

    How to insulate the ceiling in the garage? When choosing thermal insulation, you need to take into account the features of the building itself. This is an unheated or periodically heated room, therefore the insulation should not lose its specifications over a wide temperature range. On the other hand, a heater is bought with a minimum moisture absorption coefficient, since there is always a possibility of condensation in the garage. The effect of chemically active substances is also taken into account. These are vapors of fuels and lubricants and gasoline.

    They are capable of accumulating in the inner lining of a building, increasing its flammability and changing its operational characteristics. That is why insulation with minimal vapor absorption is suitable here. Considering all of the above factors, ceiling insulation in the garage can be carried out with the following materials:

    • mineral wool;
    • fiberglass;
    • polymer insulation - polystyrene, polyurethane foam, etc.

    Materials based on mineral fibers can be used provided that a good vapor and water barrier is provided.

    Insulation of the garage roof from the inside can be done with fibrous materials. If the work is carried out from the side attic space or roofing, it is necessary to choose thermal insulation with sufficient flexural and compressive strength.

    Thermal insulation of the floor inside the building

    The height of the lag should be greater than the width of the mineral wool.

    Glass wool is selected for interior work. It is made on the basis of glass processing waste. The thickness of the fibers is in the range of 3-15 microns, when their length reaches 1 m, due to which the glass wool has elasticity. On sale you can find both roll and board material. The latter is more expensive than the former. However, it is easier to work with the plates. In addition, they are characterized by a fairly high bending and compressive strength.

    Glass wool specifications:

    • density - from 11 to 25 kg / cu. m;
    • thermal conductivity - 0.029-0.041 W / (m * K);
    • flammability - NG, G1;
    • vapor permeability - up to 0.6 mg / mh * Pa;
    • moisture absorption - up to 0.8 kg / sq. m.

    The mats should fit snugly.

    How to insulate a garage roof from the inside with fiberglass? Materials installation procedure:

    • lathing;
    • hybrid barrier;
    • directly insulation;
    • vapor barrier;
    • the second tier of the lathing;
    • finishing material.

    There must be a ventilation gap between the hydro-barrier and the mineral wool.

    Wood or metal is taken as a structural material for the lathing. The first option is notable for its affordable cost, but the wood must be treated with an antiseptic. This will prevent damage to it. The second option is distinguished by its durability and strength, but also by its high price. Regardless of the material chosen, the height of the battens must be greater than the thickness of the fiberglass board. This is necessary for the organization of the ventilated gap.

    The step of the lathing should be equal to the width of the insulation plate. This is the only way to securely and efficiently fix the thermal insulation. Installation is carried out either using self-tapping screws (in the case of a tree), or using an anchor (metal frame). The battens should not be too close to the edge of the roof. The expansion gap should be maintained here.

    Insulation of the ceiling in the garage from the inside is continued by organizing a hydro-barrier. It will protect the insulation from possible roof leaks. Special membranes can be found on the market today. They do not allow moisture to pass into the thickness of the insulating cake, but they also do not interfere with steam exchange inside it. Hydro-barrier sheets are overlapped (at least 10 cm). The joints are glued with construction tape. Fastening of the material is carried out along the logs using a stapler or special staples.

    All work can be done by hand. However, if a person does not have the necessary skills and does not know how to insulate the ceiling in the garage from the inside, it is better to trust the specialists.

    It is not for nothing that panel material was chosen as the main insulation. It is easier to lay it on the edge, that is, the slabs adjoin closely to the frame of the sheathing. Also, there should be no gaps between the plates themselves. Through them, the cold will penetrate into the garage, and the quality characteristics of the thermal insulation cake will come to naught.

    Before insulating the garage roof from the inside, calculate the required thickness of the insulating material. During the calculations, the characteristics of the structural material of the garage, the climatic features of the region where it is located are taken into account. The calculation formula can be found in the regulatory documentation.

    On top of the insulation along the crate there is a vapor barrier. It can be a regular plastic wrap. It also overlaps. There should be a ventilation gap under it. Condensation will be discharged through it if such falls on the insulation. This is followed by the second tier of the crate. They lay on it fine finishing ceiling.

    External insulation of the room

    Liquid foam - penoizol.

    How and how to insulate the garage roof from the inside? In this case, a thermal insulation material is selected with the following quality characteristics:

    • with a low coefficient of moisture absorption;
    • vapor-tight;
    • resistant to deformation;
    • with low weight;
    • with high strength.

    Insulation of the garage roof from the outside can be done with polystyrene foam, since it meets all of the above requirements. Its main properties:

    • thermal conductivity from 0.037 W / sq. m * K up to 0.041 W / sq. m * K;
    • vapor permeability up to 0.05 mg / cu. m;
    • density - from 8 kg / cu. m up to 25kg / cu. m (depending on the brand);
    • water absorption from 25 to 4% per 1 cu. m;
    • compressive strength from 0.04 MPa to 0.16 MPa;
    • bending strength from 0.06 MPa to 0.25 MPa;
    • self-burning time from 1 sec. Up to 4 sec;
    • temperature range -60 ° C… + 80 ° C.

    Due to its low density, the material is lightweight. It does not create additional load on the floor. That is why it is possible to carry out insulation of the ceiling in the garage with foam from the inside. Low vapor permeability and moisture absorption allow you to mount the insulation outside the building without fear of getting it wet. Polyfoam does not rot, does not lend itself to the action of an aggressive environment.

    The main stages of the work:

    • surface preparation;
    • installation of the lathing;
    • organization of a vapor barrier;
    • laying insulation;
    • hydro-barrier;
    • the second tier of the lathing;
    • roofing material.

    The roof of the garage can be the floor of the second floor.

    Before insulating the garage roof from the outside, surface preparation is carried out. It consists in removing the old, roofing material, rotted areas of the rough covering, protruding nails. Next, a counter crate is organized. It is made of wooden blocks. They are pretreated with an antiseptic. The step of the crate is equal to the width of the foam. The wood is fastened with self-tapping screws.

    Although the foam is vapor-tight, the installation of a vapor barrier is necessary. Moisture vapors from the room always tend upward. After passing through the wooden roof deck, they will condense on the cooled foam. A vapor barrier will prevent this. Polyethylene or a special membrane is used as a vapor barrier. She goes over the top of the crate. It is mounted with an overlap, the joints are glued with construction tape.

    Laying the insulation directly. Styrofoam should go by surprise between the crate. However, for reliability, experts recommend carrying out additional fasteners using dowels with wide heads.

    There should be no gaps between the foam sheets. Possible gaps must not be foamed with polyurethane foam. The explanation is simple: foam and polystyrene have different coefficients of thermal expansion, which will negatively affect the performance of the thermal insulation cake.

    On top of the insulation there is a hydro-barrier. It can be roofing material. However, the modern, construction market offers to buy geotextiles as a waterproof shell. It does not allow water to pass through, but also does not interfere with the exchange of steam between the roofing cake and the environment. Geotextiles can also be used when the ceiling is insulated in the garage with your own hands from the inside. This vapor-permeable material helps to maintain the desired microclimate in the room. On the geotextile, the second tier of the sheathing is mounted and roofing work is carried out.

    Is it possible to insulate the garage with polystyrene from the inside?

    The porosity is overlapped.

    Can styrofoam be used indoors? How to properly insulate the ceiling in the garage based on this thermal insulation? According to experts, polystyrene can be used indoors if it is made on the basis of bricks, foam blocks or metal. There are times when a garage is built from wood. Styrofoam interferes with the air exchange of wood. Subsequently, it can rot.

    Insulation of the garage roof with foam from the inside is carried out as follows (the material is laid from top to bottom):

    • lathing;
    • waterproofing;
    • insulation;
    • vapor barrier;
    • fine finishing.

    Styrofoam sheets should fit tightly between the logs.

    The lathing can be metal or wood. On top of it is waterproofing. If a special material is used, such as geotextile or isospan, then the installation is carried out according to the instructions. The film should run across the roof rafters, smooth side out. Sagging of the hydro-barrier is allowed. There must be a ventilated gap between the film and the batten. To do this, the rough roof covering from the inside is upholstered with thin, wooden slats.

    Foam plates are placed between the battens without gaps. For installation, special glue and anchors with wide caps are used. In some cases, the fixing of the insulation is carried out using auxiliary rails. They are attached to the beams of the main lathing with a step of 20-30 cm. Such a lathing will later serve as a second ventilation gap.

    In order to insulate the ceiling in the garage with polystyrene foam without the formation of cold bridges, you need to carefully consider the quality of the thermal insulation material. Only certified goods have dimensions with a minimum error, which guarantees a snug fit of the plates.

    A vapor barrier film is laid on top of the insulation. If necessary, at this stage, you can improve the sound insulation of the building or lay it. At the end, a fine finish is carried out.

    Correct and inexpensive insulation of the garage roof

    How can and how to properly insulate the roof of the garage? Today, buyers are offered a huge choice thermal insulation materials... Both mineral and polymer heaters are suitable for the garage. The former are distinguished by their affordable cost, the latter by their long service life.

    Fiberglass, as a mineral insulation, is more suitable for indoor use. Although with good hydro and vapor barrier, it is used to organize roofing cake... The garage roof is insulated with foam from the outside. If the garage is made of foam blocks, metal or brick, then the foam is placed on the inside of the roof. In addition to foam and glass wool, polyurethane foam can be used to insulate the garage roof. How to apply it is shown in detail in the video:

    Finishing a concrete garage

    Too much low temperatures in the garage is bad, but too high is not better. When insulating a room, it is important not to overdo it. Sometimes, in pursuit of heat conservation, garage owners insulate all cracks, forgetting that there must be ventilation in any room. Otherwise, moisture will accumulate, form condensation, and a musty smell will appear. A ventilation hole should be provided in a concrete garage. The most acceptable temperature for keeping a car is + 5 degrees. You can insulate the garage both from the inside and outside.

    Internal insulation has a number of disadvantages:

    1. Insulation materials, even the highest quality ones, emit small amounts of toxic substances.
    2. There is always a risk that the walls of the garage will freeze through during the winter.
    3. For interior decoration, a layer of insulation reduces the space.

    External insulation of a concrete structure is preferable, it will reliably protect the room from freezing, but it also has a number of "disadvantages". First of all, these are significant expenses for building materials.

    Important! Outdoor arrangement is a rather laborious process. In addition to the insulation, you will have to do the finishing to make the building look attractive.

    But still, each method of insulation has its own advantages. Once having made such a finish, you can provide for many years optimal conditions in the garage. You can also install double insulation, the main thing is to choose high-quality materials and carry out construction work correctly.

    How to choose the right material?

    Foam insulation

    Before insulating a concrete garage, you need to take care of the materials for this purpose. Each of the heaters has its own characteristics. Therefore, when purchasing products, one should focus on their properties and performance.

    For thermal insulation of a concrete garage, you can choose one of the most popular materials:

    1. Styrofoam. A versatile and beloved material. There will be no difficulties with its installation when insulating the garage. The foam is very light and can be easily cut into segments. It is an affordable insulation material that is not afraid of moisture and does not rot. Its variety - expanded polystyrene - has a long service life - up to 40 years, does not allow steam or moisture to pass through. The disadvantage of polystyrene is its poor stability when exposed to sunlight; without coating, it will quickly turn yellow and begin to crumble. This material does not allow air to pass through, "does not breathe", some varieties are quite flammable. They should not be purchased for insulating a garage.
    2. Mineral wool. If this material will be used for external thermal insulation, then it is necessary to choose a rigid variety of cotton wool with a density of 200-240 kg per cubic meter... If interior decoration of the garage is planned, then you should buy a soft variety of mineral wool with a density of 120-180 kg per cubic meter. High performance of thermal insulation and at the same time sound insulation is distinctive features basalt variety of mineral wool. Before insulating a cinder block garage with this material, it is important to take care of vapor barrier, otherwise the substance will begin to saturate moisture and lose its properties.
    3. Glass wool. Insulation with this material will cost less than mineral wool. But glass wool has rather tough and prickly fibers, so you need to work with it carefully and with protective gloves so as not to get hurt. Glass wool is even more afraid of water. If the material gets wet, then it is unlikely to dry out. Wet, crumpled glass wool is not able to retain heat, moreover, it develops a strong unpleasant odor.
    4. Reflective materials. One of the most modern and optimal options for interior work. Unlike other insulating coatings, shielding sheets have a minimum thickness: only 2-5 mm, so such insulation will not affect the volume of the garage in any way. Reflective insulation is produced in the form of rolls, it is soft, easy to install. It is a layer of foil with foamed polyurethane foam. In addition, when using such thermal insulation, the cladding of the room is automatically obtained.
    5. Thermal insulation plaster. This is a finishing material that contains a filler to enhance its properties. Most often it is granular polystyrene foam, vermiculite, sawdust. The disadvantage of such insulation is that for significant protection of the garage it is necessary to make a rather impressive layer of plaster, its consumption will be high. It is best to combine "warm" plaster with other methods of garage insulation or use it for finishing work. It can also be used to insulate a room from the inside.
    6. Heat insulating paints. This method of insulation has its advantages. The paint layer is very thin: each 1 mm of it corresponds to 50 mm of mineral wool. Plus it's a beautiful finish. It is easy to apply the paint, it covers well any material. Paint and varnish insulating coatings are made on the basis of acrylic polymers, dyes and synthetic rubber. These materials are generally non-flammable and resistant to fungus.

    In order to insulate the garage as much as possible, it is necessary to take care of the insulation not only of the walls, but also of the floor, roof and gates. You have to start from the walls.

    External insulation of garage walls

    Exterior finish of the garage

    The simplest and most common option for insulating a concrete garage outside is the use of foam. This is an inexpensive material, you can finish it yourself, no special skills are required to work.

    Main steps:

    1. Preparing the walls. They must be cleaned of dirt, dust, and chips and cracks must be plastered.
    2. Installation of polystyrene. It is better to choose sheets with a thickness of 5 cm and a strength of 25 units. The fixing solution can be applied in separate "dots", but this economical option without experience is a little difficult to implement. In this case, the foam sheets must be pressed very tightly against the wall. Therefore, it is safer to apply the composition over the entire surface with a notched trowel. They insulate the walls from the bottom up. For greater reliability, the sheets are additionally fixed with dowels, but after the binder solution has dried.
    3. Final wall decoration. Styrofoam is a good and inexpensive insulation, but it needs additional protection from external factors... It is better to use plaster for these purposes, reinforcing it with a fiberglass mesh. The foam is covered with a layer of glue up to 5 mm thick. The mesh cut into strips is pressed into the glue, always with an overlap. After that, you can apply the facade plaster. The final coating can be painting in several layers. You can also use drywall sheets (special moisture resistant) for finishing work, but you will have to erect a frame to fix them.

    Internal insulation of garage walls

    Interior wall decoration

    For such work, you first need to mount a frame made of a metal profile, on which the heat-insulating layer will be attached. If mineral wool acts as a heater, then first a layer of waterproofing film is fixed so that the wool does not absorb moisture. It is fastened with an overlap, but without pulling it so that there are no breaks. After laying the filler, a vapor barrier layer is made. Then spend Finishing work using drywall and plaster.

    Advice! A good option for insulation from the inside is the application of polyurethane foam. True, this requires special equipment. The foam is applied to the walls, it just solidifies.

    Roof insulation

    Styrofoam for ceiling

    To insulate the roof of the garage, you first need to build a frame from a metal profile. Attach it to a concrete slab with metal corners and self-tapping screws. The foam sheets are first fixed to the frame with tape, and then securely pressed with the finishing sheets inner cladding... It makes no sense to install a special layer of insulation from steam and moisture, since the foam does not allow them to pass through. If, for roof insulation, the choice fell on mineral wool, then the first from the overlap is a layer of waterproofing, then mineral wool or other fibrous filler, and then a vapor barrier layer.

    Gate insulation

    Warm gate

    If you do not take care of the thermal insulation of this part of the garage, then heat loss cannot be avoided. After all, the gates occupy a significant area of the building. The simplest option for insulation is the arrangement of plastic "curtains". Transparent film 8-10 mm thick is suitable for this purpose. It is easy to cut it into strips 20-30 cm wide and fix it with a stapler on a wooden cornice rail. Gate leaves are often insulated from the inside, as it is technically easier. The same foam will do. First you need to complete the crate of the gate, and then mount the foam.

    Floor insulation

    Insulation of a concrete floor

    Concrete floor is good because it is very strong and durable, does not allow moisture to pass through. But it also has disadvantages: it is prone to dust formation, since it is erased with active use. Insulation of the concrete floor in the garage is also necessary. The only exception is if there is a cellar under the garage. In the case when the floor is with a soil base in the room, it is easiest to insulate with expanded clay.

    To do this, you will need to perform the following actions:

    • remove part of the soil to the estimated depth of insulation;
    • the earth is carefully tamped;
    • send out a layer of insulating material, such as roofing material;
    • cover the "pillow" of expanded clay by about 30 cm;
    • concrete floor;
    • Apply a layer of protective coating such as paint to keep dust free.

    A more expensive and more complex option is a floor heating system. But many consider it impractical to insulate the concrete floor in the garage in a similar way.

    Fiberglass provides low thermal conductivity due to its fibrous structure. A material is made from glass, which is melted and drawn into thin threads. Fiberglass will not burn, decompose or rot. However, the material should not be subjected to mechanical stress. During installation, you should work in personal protective equipment so that fiber particles do not get on the mucous membrane and skin.

    Photo. Installation of insulation TECHNOROOF TechnoNICOL

    Mineral wool (basalt) insulation resembles fiberglass in structure, but differs in the original material (basalt rocks). Mineral insulation is a more plastic and resilient material. At correct installation the insulation will last for tens of years. But when laying, it is necessary to protect the mineral wool with a vapor barrier from moisture and finishing from mechanical damage.

    Minvata TECHNOROOF is designed to create a heat-insulating layer in reinforced concrete roofs during the construction of structures.

    Expanded polystyrene is very popular due to its ease of installation and low cost. All polymer heaters are made using the same technology - the porous structure of expanded polystyrene allows you to keep heat for a long time. Technoplex does not absorb moisture and can withstand significant mechanical stress, but expanded polystyrene is afraid of direct sunlight and is highly flammable.

    For internal thermal insulation of the roof, we advise you to pay attention to mineral insulation. This insulation does not support combustion, but requires additional protection with a vapor barrier film. The best way roof insulation is the thermal insulation of the garage roof with mineral wool even at the stage of construction, as in self-insulation attic with mineral wool from the inside.

    Technoruf is modern material, which is used as a top layer for thermal insulation of pitched roofs. The material is not flammable, it can be used without loss of characteristics at temperatures from -60 to + 400 ° С. The use of waterproofing when laying Technoruf mineral wool is mandatory. All brands of Technoruf mineral wool are distinguished by high density and low thermal conductivity.

    How to insulate a garage roof from the outside

    It is quite difficult to insulate the roof of the garage from the street so that it will serve for a long time. Therefore, manufacturers each year offer different solutions to this problem. A layer of expanded polystyrene or mineral wool insulation with external thermal insulation is between roofing and reinforced concrete slabs, but the material should be protected from mechanical damage and moisture.

    Photo. Insulation of the garage roof with expanded clay outside

    When insulating a garage roof, the sequence of laying materials should be strictly observed. To begin with, a hydro-barrier, an insulating layer and a vapor barrier are laid. If the floor is a reinforced concrete slab, then the thermal insulation materials are attached directly to the roof. Minvata is distinguished by fire safety and high heat-saving ability and sound absorption.

    Styrofoam can be fixed on flat roof outside or inside with dowels. Seams between foam or extruded polystyrene boards should be foamed. It is advisable to lay the expanded polystyrene plates in two layers in a checkerboard pattern so that the second layer overlaps the seams of the previous layer. Thus, you reduce the risk of cold bridges in the insulation layer.

    How to insulate a garage roof from the inside

    When installing the insulation internally, it must be pre-treated wooden floors antiseptic, and reinforced concrete stove with mastic. Installation of expanded polystyrene on concrete slab the roof is made on polyurethane foam with additional fastening to disc dowels. For shed and gable roof made of wood, the slab insulation is laid between the rafters, and all the seams are foamed.

    Photo. Insulation of the garage roof with foam from the inside

    For laying mineral wool, a frame should be built on the ceiling. Many manufacturers produce plates of increased rigidity, which are easily inserted into the space between the rafters. If rolls or slabs of low-density mineral wool are used, then the insulation should be laid on the roof hem. After laying the mineral wool, it should be protected with a vapor barrier membrane from moisture penetration.

    In the video at the end of the material, you can take a closer look at the entire technology of work. Recall that when insulating a garage, ventilation of the room should be provided. The fact is that in a warm and humid room, the car will rust faster. Do not forget to also insulate the garage door with high quality, since most of the heat goes through this structure in winter.

    Types of thermal insulation materials

    Fiberglass insulation is sold in rolls or sheets. The insulating properties are the same as those of ordinary glass. It does not burn, will not rot from moisture, will not collapse under the influence of an aggressive environment. The smallest fiber structure ensures low thermal conductivity of the material.

    Fiberglass is a brittle material, so it must not be subjected to mechanical stress, otherwise the fibers will be damaged. When using this material, you must make sure that the smallest particles do not come into contact with the skin, especially in the eyes or respiratory system: it can cause serious harm to health. If this happens, see your doctor immediately. When purchasing the material, make sure that the packaging is not damaged: the insulation can spill or get wet, and wet fiber will not properly insulate in a cold room.

    In some cases, the insulation of the garage roof is not much different from the insulation of the ordinary roof of the house.

    Mineral fiber has a similar structure, but is made from a different material - basalt rocks. Basalt melts and forms fine fibers. This material is more ductile and flexible than fiberglass. Therefore, it is less susceptible to mechanical damage. Mineral wool has low thermal conductivity and is used as a sound insulation material. At correct installation and providing moisture protection, mineral wool insulation will last for a long time.

    Another method is polymer insulation. It is carried out using a material obtained by extrusion of polymers. The porous structure of the polymer has heat insulating properties. The material is produced in slabs of various sizes and thicknesses. Polymer insulation of the roof from the inside is very popular. Benefits include affordable cost, low thermal conductivity, and ease of installation. Polymer insulation is very lightweight. The design does not suffer from unnecessary stress.

    Polymer materials do not absorb moisture, unlike fibrous materials. However, do not forget about the disadvantages.

    Insulation layers must be properly protected from sunlight. If a fire occurs in a garage, this insulation will burn very quickly.

    New types of insulation are now emerging, some of which have been added to prevent the spread of flame.

    Natural insulation materials are rarely used in garages. These include felt, wool, cotton and paper insulation. Material of this class is treated with a special impregnation that prevents them from burning. Insulation made from natural materials is quite durable and can last for a long time.

    External and internal roof insulation

    To keep the heat in the room, you will need to install 3 layers of thermal insulation structure:

    • waterproofing;
    • insulating material;
    • vapor barrier.

    When planning the insulation of the garage roof from the inside, you need to pay attention to the following factors. The garage must have working ventilation - then the exhaust gases will be removed from the room in a timely manner, otherwise you can get serious poisoning. Moreover, without fresh air, it is difficult to get rid of excess moisture. And then over time, the car body will start to rust.

    External insulation of the garage roof can be performed at the stage of its construction. To do this, you need to install one layer of vapor barrier. It is important that moisture does not penetrate into the insulation: the fumes must go out into the street. If steam collects and condenses on the ceiling and on the insulation material, its service life can be significantly reduced. Next, you need to fix a layer of thermal insulation materials, you can take a piece of foam for this.

    The process of installing foam boards on the ceiling is very simple.

    This material is attached with special plastic dowels. The edges of the plates should be additionally glued for reliability. The rest of the gaps should be sealed with foam. Instead of expanded polystyrene boards, mineral wool is also suitable. But to install this insulation, you will have to build a wooden frame. The final piece of the insulation cake is waterproofing. The joints and edges of the film must be sealed with tape, after which the materials for the roofing can be laid.

    If there are beams on the inside of the ceiling of the garage, a different scheme of insulation work should be chosen. At the first stage, the beams are closed with sheet material, and then a fiber insulation material is attached to the bottom.

    To fix the mineral wool insulation, it will be necessary to create a structure from wooden beams, insert layers of fiber insulation between them. We cover the entire structure with foil or film so that moisture does not get on the insulation.
    With the use of liquid penoizol, work is much easier: it is simply sprayed over the surface. Thus, it penetrates into cracks and hard-to-reach places. The material hardens quickly, forming an even layer that prevents the penetration of cold air.

    After finishing work on the insulation of the garage roof from the inside and outside, pay attention to the walls and gates. These elements are also easy to insulate on their own - if you wish.

    How to properly insulate a garage roof from the inside

    In each case, the insulation of the garage roof can differ significantly: the features of the location of the layers of insulation, the material with which you are going to insulate your garage, the features of the roof structure, for which you will need to "adjust" the insulation.

    The only thing that should remain unchanged and on which the quality of insulation depends to a large extent is the presence of waterproofing and vapor barrier layers in the roofing structure.

    If there are none, then all further work on the insulation of the garage will turn into Sisyphean labor.

    Make sure that the roof is equipped with effective vapor and waterproofing and only then proceed with the insulation process.

    If there is no insulation, then you will have to first deal with the insulation issue, and then with the insulation. And all this - overnight.

    To get started, prepare a set of tools required for work:

    • directly insulation;
    • waterproofing material;
    • film to provide vapor barrier;
    • self-adhesive tape;
    • special buttons;
    • carpentry tools.

    And this article talks about the construction of a garage from corrugated board.

    Foam insulation

    In order for the insulation of the garage roof with foam to be as effective as possible, you need to know the nuances of installing this material:

    • the plates are fastened only with glue;
    • the installation of the lathing is optional and undesirable, since the bolt holes can break the tightness of the roof and become an additional cause of heat leakage;
    • Styrofoam sheets can be used for both decorative and functional purposes. After warming, you can build something like a false ceiling from the remnants, which can be used:
      • as an attic for storing spare parts;
      • as an additional heat-insulating layer;
      • as a decorative element.

    Insulation with glass wool

    Glass wool is a good option for insulation material. Thick, but soft and pliable, the insulation can be easily placed in the most inconvenient places for other insulation materials: cotton wool will fit everywhere.

    But even when working with such a flexible material, you need to take into account some features:

    • if the crate is solid, then it is better to fix the insulation from the bottom of the structure - this will be both more convenient and efficient;
    • if the crate is discharged, cotton wool should be placed between the rafters, and the waterproofing should be mounted already on top of the insulation;
    • pay attention to the features of the roofing structure and place insulation, depending on how the roof implies;
    • the waterproofing film should not be placed in such a way that it is in close contact with the insulation, unless you have chosen a superdiffusion membrane covering as the insulating material.

    For high-quality fixing of glass wool (or mineral wool), you will have to work hard and build on the ceiling wooden beams to place the layers of insulation between them.

    Insulation with penoizol

    This method is simpler and more accessible than the others. Applying penoizol in the process of insulating a garage roof, there is no need to bother too much and spend a lot of time: the material is simply applied to the surface by spraying, and it itself penetrates into all cracks and cracks, quickly solidifies, forming a neat even layer.

    Penoizol does not require any moisture protection and is designed for long-term operation.

    Insulation outside

    As a rule, external insulation of the garage roof is carried out during the construction process, since it is not very convenient to pick out an already finished structure in order to correct omissions.

    The first thing to look for when insulating a garage roof from the outside. - the presence of a vapor barrier on the side of the room, in order to further avoid secondary condensation of vapors and unpleasant smudges along the walls.

    The outer roofing "puff" is the same as the inner one:

    Now let's look at how to make external insulation in stages:

    1. Lay the first layer of the vapor barrier, it will serve as the main protection against moisture ingress on the insulation and guarantee the operation of the insulation for as long as possible.
    2. Attach a layer of insulation material. Make sure that the gaps remain as small as possible. If the sheets do not adhere tightly to each other, blow out the cracks with polyurethane foam (this advice applies to the case if you are insulating the roof with foam).
    3. The last layer is a hydro-barrier. It will be safer and more effective if in the area of the joints the film is also sealed with adhesive tape.
    4. Roofing materials can be laid on the finished hydro-barrier.

    Waterproofing the roof of the garage. Read about it here.

    And here is an article on choosing a roof for a garage.

    In this section of our website http://ru-house.net/postrojki/garazh/ everything is most important and necessary for building a garage.

    A few words about heaters

    Each owner of a garage and everything in this garage, first of all, cares about the safety of the car, about his health and comfort in the room, which for most motorists becomes a second home.

    Therefore, a lot depends on the choice of insulation for the garage. and you need to choose it so that you do not redo the insulation ten times.

    Fiberglass (cotton wool) - retains heat perfectly, does not rot (no fungus is terrible for it), is fire-resistant, does not change its characteristics for a long time. But he is afraid of mechanical stress: if, during careless transportation, fiberglass mats were subjected to impacts, then such material will no longer provide high-quality thermal insulation. On impact, glass fibers are damaged and the material loses its properties.

    In addition, glass fibers negatively affect mucous membranes; it is not recommended to work with such material without gloves, glasses and a respirator.

    Polyfoam is a lightweight material with a porous structure, capable of retaining heat well, and is not susceptible to the effects of microorganisms and fungi. This material does not accumulate moisture at all, so you can, without too much risk, do without vapor barrier.

    Polyfoam is produced in sheets of various thicknesses and areas, due to its low weight, this material will allow you to save on rafter beams.

    Liquid penoizol is the newest and most convenient of all insulation materials. It is absolutely harmless to humans, its service life is at least 50 years.

    The only drawback of penoizol is its too high price.

    Garage roof

    A garage is more than just a parking space. It is also a room where many tools and materials are stored, carried out renovation work... Both for the car and for its owner, the living conditions in the garage should be comfortable. To do this, it is necessary to insulate the entire room, including the roof. You can do it on their own... Next, consider how to insulate the garage roof yourself.

    Features of garage and roof insulation

    Roof arrangement

    The garage can be insulated in different ways: from the outside, from the inside, you can combine both methods. In this case, it is important to leave a ventilation hole so that harmful substances do not accumulate in the garage. The ventilation ducts not only cannot be sealed, on the contrary, they must be made if they were not there before.

    You should not strive for +20 degrees in the garage in winter, this is not necessary. The normal readings of a thermometer for wintering a car indoors is a temperature of five degrees Celsius. Insulation requires both the walls of the building and its roof, gates and even the garage floor.

    In order for the construction work to give a result, and the structure has served for a long time, three layers are necessary:

    • waterproofing;
    • thermal insulation;
    • vapor barrier.

    Their sequence depends on whether outdoor or internal option was purchased to insulate the roof of the garage. The choice of material for thermal insulation of a room should be approached with all responsibility.

    For a garage, it must meet the following criteria:

    1. Non-flammability. The garage is a fire hazardous area with valuable contents. Many materials for thermal insulation do not support combustion due to special impregnations.
    2. Resistant to moisture. The higher it is, the better. If the material does not have these properties, then a waterproofing film will be needed.
    3. High thermal insulation properties, otherwise you will have to use several layers or combine different materials.
    4. Inert towards rodents, insects, fungus, mold.
    5. Ease of installation, the need for additional equipment, special skills, and so on.

    Advice! When choosing a heater, of course, the cost of the material is important. But you should not save a lot. Cheap insulation options can release toxic substances into the air. This is very important for interior decoration.

    Choosing the best material

    Roof insulation

    The choice of such products is huge. Before insulating the garage roof, you need to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the materials, since each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

    Most popular for construction works in the garage are:

    1. Fiberglass. This material is obtained from waste glass production. It is made up of long, thin fibers gathered in slabs or rolls. The main advantages of fiberglass are that it non-combustible material, mold and fungus do not settle on it. Material resistant to impact environment except for water. The fibrous structure helps the material retain heat reliably. The main drawback lies in the fibers themselves - they are thin, fragile and, when working without protective equipment, they can easily get injured.
    2. Mineral wool. Considered one of the best heaters... Also a fibrous material, but not from glass, but from basalt rocks. Cotton wool is easy to install, but it is important to take care of a protective layer from moisture. This is the biggest drawback of this material: mineral wool quickly deteriorates from water. In this case, a small gap should be left between the thermal insulation material and the film. Mineral wool is very flexible, besides, it absorbs sound well and is quite affordable.
    3. Polymer heaters. The technology of their production is practically the same, but PSB-S foam plastic (styrofoam) stands out. Due to the foamed (porous) structure, it retains heat, does not allow moisture to pass through, and is also not afraid of mold, fungus, insects and mice. Styrofoam and polyurethane are popular. They are easy to mount, the material itself is lightweight, easy to cut. Polyfoam is one of the most budgetary heaters. Of the "minuses" can be noted the fear of direct sunlight and a noticeable yellowing due to the sun. But this can be prevented by providing an additional protective layer.
    4. Liquid insulation. Another polymer insulation is liquid polyurethane foam (penoizol). This is a foam that hardens when it cures. For its application, special equipment is required, but such a coating can be applied to any surface, there are no seams. Also, there is no need for waterproofing, because the material does not allow moisture to pass through. This is a very durable insulation: the service life is about forty years.

    In addition to the material for insulating the garage, you will also need a polymer film for insulation from steam and a material to protect against moisture.

    How to insulate a garage roof yourself?

    Insulation of the garage roof

    The choice of interior or exterior finishes depends on the shape of the roof. Warming the usual flat roof the garage is best carried out outside.

    For outdoor insulation, you must complete the following steps:

    1. Cleaning the roof from dirt, defects, as well as insulating joints, sealing cracks with polyurethane foam. The roof should not only be warm, but also not leak.
    2. Laying a vapor barrier film on the roof. It should be overlapped, carefully gluing the joints with tape. This layer is necessary to protect the insulating material, especially if fiberglass or mineral wool acts as a heater. Vapor barrier layer significantly extends the service life of insulating components.
    3. Mounting of material for thermal insulation. For external insulation, the easiest way is to use foam, you can use mineral wool. It is better to arrange the foam in two layers, fixing it with tape. Laying the layers is carried out in a ragged manner, with a shift, so that the joints of the two foam layers do not coincide.
    4. Arrangement of waterproofing. It can be a special roofing film, as well as roofing material. Another common option is a liquid bituminous mixture.
    5. Outdoor finishing work. They are necessary not so much for beauty as for final protection.

    It is better to insulate a single-pitched or attic roof of a garage from the inside.

    Internal insulation of the garage roof is carried out in several stages:

    1. Installation of waterproofing. This is the closest layer to the roof. The film is overlapped, the joints are sealed with construction tape. The presence of a film is mandatory when insulating a garage roof with mineral wool or fiberglass, since these heaters do not tolerate moisture, their properties deteriorate from getting wet. A special hydro-textile or ordinary roofing material can act as a waterproofing material.
    2. Insulation laying.
    3. Installation of a layer of film for vapor barrier. The joints should also be glued with tape. It can be a membrane material or plastic wrap.
    4. Finishing decorative layer.

    The most difficult stage of the arrangement shed roof may be the placement of the thermal insulation material. If the garage floor is made of beams and planks, then the foam can be attached directly to them with nails or dowels. It is important to seal up all the cracks with polyurethane foam or glue the joints with tape.

    Important! When using foam, the presence of vapor barrier and moisture barrier films is not necessary.

    If the roof of the garage is a concrete slab, then first it will be correct to mount the frame. With the help of metal corners and self-tapping screws, a "mesh" is formed from the profile. And then the sheets of material are fixed with self-tapping screws, the joints are treated with foam or fixed with tape, and finally fixed with drywall.

    Mineral wool also needs a frame if there are no beams in the roof. The thickness of the insulation is at least 15 cm. In the case of using liquid expanded polystyrene, the roof is first sewn up with boards or drywall, and the material is applied on top of them.

    How to carry out finishing work and how to finish the insulation?

    Corrugated roof

    With external roof insulation using foam, it is easiest to complete the installation work with a cement and sand screed. This layer can be strengthened by first spreading a reinforced mesh. It is better to add to concrete special solution against frost cracking, then the roof protection will be durable.

    At internal insulation garage roofs in the role finishing material can choose:

    1. Lining. It is inexpensive and easy to install. But this material is flammable.
    2. Decking. Made of metal. The galvanized version is not subject to corrosion, is not covered with paint, therefore it is non-flammable. With a profiled sheet, the finish looks stylish and modern.
    3. Drywall. It is easily attached to the profile. After that, you can apply plaster or paint. There are varieties of paints with insulating properties, "warm" plasters with granules inside. Such materials perform not only a decorative function, but also additionally increase the thermal insulation of the room. This is the best solution for a garage ceiling.
    4. Wood. If you treat it with a special impregnation, then the material will become resistant to moisture and mold, will not absorb odors, and maintain combustion.

    Important! You can even do suspended ceiling in the garage. But this option is only appropriate for large rooms.

    A warm garage is a guarantee that the car will last a long time. It is not so difficult to make insulation with your own hands. In addition to frost, such a sheathing protects against condensation - the main enemy of metal.

    High-quality insulation of the garage roof from the inside allows you to create comfortable conditions in it, in which you can work even in a cold period. This method of insulation is quite simple to perform and makes it possible to concentrate heat inside the garage, preventing the cold from entering the room.

    The optimal choice of the type of thermal insulation and its correct installation is the key to the success of the entire event. Consider the basic principles of insulation, popular types of materials for insulating a garage roof and the sequence of their installation.

    Only with a sharp approach of cold weather, car owners begin to remember the need to insulate the garage. No matter what material the walls and ceiling are built from, without an insulating layer, they very quickly begin to let cold and moisture into the room, which has an extremely negative effect on the storage conditions of the car.

    What conditions are considered optimal for your vehicle to be a hassle-free ride? The average temperature during the winter period should be about + 5 ° C, and the fresh air supply should be 150-180 m³ / h, depending on the size of the garage. Such parameters require careful planning of insulation measures, because if you overdo it and mount too thick insulation layer, "greenhouse" conditions may arise in the garage. This threatens the appearance of condensation on the body of the car after driving from the street into the building, which accelerates the development of rust and shortens the period of operation of the car.

    Competently organized ventilation also contributes to the creation of the necessary microclimate for the car. In no case should heat losses be reduced by stopping ventilation - this will lead to stagnation of air saturated with moisture and vapors of combustible substances. It must be remembered that the main enemy of the car is not the cold itself, but its combination with moisture. By removing humid air from the room, preventing rain and snow from seeping through the roof, you will create your vehicle ideal conditions storage.

    The choice of whether to carry out insulation of the garage roof from the outside or from the inside depends on the specific situation. Internal insulation is most convenient for sloped or flat roofs.

    Types of insulation

    For creating reliable protection from the cold, are used different types materials. Many heat insulators have gained widespread popularity among car owners worried about the conditions inside their garage.

    1. Glass wool. Perfect for most garage roof insulation applications. The main advantages are fire safety, resistance to moisture and aggressive substances. The disadvantages include significant fragility and some difficulties in work: you need to work with glass wool very carefully, observing safety rules and always using protective clothing.
    2. Mineral wool. The structure of this material resembles glass wool with the only difference - such insulation is made from molten basalt stretched into thin threads. This circumstance strongly influences the final properties of the product: mineral wool becomes more elastic, easier to accept deformation and cutting into pieces. Basalt insulation is slightly more expensive than glass wool, but it is considered a more modern and durable analogue.
    3. Styrofoam. It is often used as a relatively inexpensive and easy-to-install material, but its strong flammability limits its use in garages, since this is contrary to the rules fire safety... It is possible to insulate the walls and ceiling with polystyrene only in those cases when it has a degree of protection against fire. Such polymers are made with the addition of special substances - antipyretics.
    4. Polyurethane foam. Despite the fact that this type of insulation has appeared on the market relatively recently, it has already gained high popularity. The main advantages of polyurethane foam are that it completely fills all the free space, leaving no gaps or air pockets. The insulation is applied using portable spray guns, after which it instantly expands according to the principle of polyurethane foam.

    The choice of the type of insulation largely depends on the climatic conditions of the region, the availability of heating in the garage and the size of the allocated budget. Most often, glass wool and polystyrene are used to insulate the garage roof. Due to the high cost, stone (mineral) wool, expanded polystyrene and other materials are less commonly used.

    Installation sequence

    Before insulating the garage roof from the inside, you should protect the insulating material from moisture penetration - rain or melted snow. The first layer, which is laid on the inner surface of the ceiling, will be a waterproofing film. Despite its small thickness, it will become a reliable barrier to moisture. The joints between the individual strips of the film are glued with construction tape.

    It is most convenient to make sure that the thermal insulation fits into separate cells, which are separated from each other by battens.

    If you plan to use foam or other sheet material, then they must be fixed with screws or dowels, and the joints must be filled with foam - glue. Mineral wool is placed in the space between the battens and then sewn up with suitable sheet material - drywall, plywood or planks.

    In order to protect the layer of insulation from moisture, suitable from the side of the inner space of the garage, between it and facing material an additional layer of waterproofing film should be laid.

    Insulating the roof from the outside or from the inside does not take much time, but it allows you to create comfortable conditions in the garage not only for equipment, but also for a person's stay. The choice of materials for insulating a garage roof is wide enough and depends, first of all, on your capabilities and requirements.

    And car maintenance in the autumn-winter season in a cold garage cannot be of high quality. And if the repair? It is unlikely that you have enough physical and mental strength to tighten the nuts in an ice room.

    So take care about the insulation of the garage should be in advance.

    Highest percentage of heat leakage going through the roof. And you need to start the insulation work "from above" - from the roof.

    For high-quality fixing glass wool (or mineral wool) will have to work hard and build wooden beams on the ceiling in order to place layers of insulation between them.

    Insulation with penoizol

    This method simpler and more accessible than the rest...

    The first thing to look for when insulating a garage roof from the outside, - the presence of a vapor barrier on the side of the room, in order to further avoid secondary condensation of vapors and unpleasant smudges along the walls.

    External roofing "puff" the same as the internal one:

    • waterproofing;
    • insulation;
    • vapor barrier;
    • bottom decorative trim (or not very decorative).

    Now consider, how to make external insulation in stages:

    A few words about heaters

    Each owner of a garage and everything in this garage, first of all, cares about the safety of the car, about his health and comfort in the room, which for most motorists becomes a second home.

    That's why a lot depends on the choice of insulation for the garage, and you need to choose it so that you do not redo the insulation ten times.

    Fiberglass (wool)- retains heat perfectly, does not give in to decay (no fungus is afraid of it), is fire-resistant, does not change its characteristics for a long time.

    Styrofoam- lightweight, porous material, able to retain heat well, not susceptible to microorganisms and fungi. This material does not accumulate moisture at all, so you can, without too much risk, do without vapor barrier.

    Polyfoam is produced in sheets of various thicknesses and areas, due to its low weight, this material will allow you to save on rafter beams.

    Liquid penoizol- the newest and most comfortable of all insulation materials. It is absolutely harmless to humans, its service life is at least 50 years.

    The only drawback of penoizol is its too high price.
